Keyboard lighting issues

I have recently ordered a Vyper Series: 15.6", and is currently running Mint 19.1. However the keyboard backlight seems to be uncontrolable, the function keys F6&7 appear to be keyboard light controls, but they don't do anything. I can change the lighting algorithm from the bios, but outside of that i have no control.

Does the vyper's touchpad work in mint? I'm assuming it must do otherwise you'd have mentioned it too
