Knocking noise during stress testing - UPDATE!

Hi. Received my new build yesterday and have now started stress testing, following the excellent post from @SpyderTracks.

I’m currently running Prime95 and have 2 questions

how long should I run it for (I’ve got 12 cores) and

is this sound, like a distant train running along the tracks, normal? It doesn’t feel right to me.

I can feel the knocking vibration through the case

When running Chkdsk on the HDD, it’s as quiet as a church

TIA

Very odd...

The only things I can think that may produce a noise under stress would be HDD and cooler pump.

Install iCue and just double check the pump speeds. Sometimes they can be a bit noisy for the first couple of days while the coolant circulates through the pump fully. We just want to be double sure that the pump is working effectively.

Been running AIDA64 for half hour. Pump speed 2200-2400, fans max 1850.

Not sure if that’s good, bad or indifferent, but no “knocking” sound during this time

It’s very quiet while running MemTest86, so will try Prime95 after and see what happens

Am running Prime95 again. The rythmical knocking sound is deffo coming through the case that covers the motherboard. I can feel the vibration.
Think I will be on the phone to PCS in the morning

No idea if this is linked, but Keeping HWiNFO open while running Prime95, the CPU Bus/Interconnect Errors are creeping up. Currently 143 after 2 hours

@SpyderTracks @ubuysa Just had word back from PCS for this RMA, as follows

"We have completed our RMA repair of your system. During the testing phase we were able to isolate the fault to windows software errors/issues. Firstly, we re-seated all the core components and completed a clean install of windows 10 Home. All the latest driver software has been installed and the latest Motherboard BIOS has been updated. The power supply has been tested and re-seated to find no issues.

To further rule out any hardware or software faults, the system was placed on an overnight stress test. The system has passed these tests with no further faults replicated."

The advice from you knowledgeable chaps, when getting a new build, is to stress test the components, do a clean install of Windows 10 and then update all drivers.

Given that PCS has done this ahead of sending it back to me, would you still suggest I do it all again myself? TIA for your thoughts

You should be good to go now that PCS have done the installation/testing.

@ubuysa and @SpyderTracks well, the good news is my system has been returned.

First thing I did was download Prime95 and HWiNFO64 again. Bad news is, I'm still getting that repeating knoocking sound (see video attached to initial post above) that I can feel coming through the case that protects the power unit and whatever else is under there. Also, HWiNFO64 is racking up Windows Hardware Errors (WHEA) with CPU Bus Interconnect errors being the culprit.

Should I accept this as normal and am I being too picky?

The WHEA errors seem to be a known issue from my post #11.

Whether the knocking is something you can live with is up to you. I'd monitor it and get back to PCS if it gets worse.
