Laptop Cooling and protection

Hi I have a few questions I would like help with please

First question should I get a screen protector for my vortex 17.3 or should I not need one? and do people know where these can be purchased cheap?

Second question cooling. Do Heat-Absorbing Mat/Cooling Pads work as I see them for sale around £7 on ebay and I dont want a stand with fans etc that you plug into the USB as the laptop apart from when im on a train or at a table will be sat on my lap or flat on a bed so Im after something that can cool it when im gaming.

as you have a big laptop, (assuming ya spent alot) i'd go for a zalman 17" notebook cooler will help keep it cool whilst gaming and the like.

how would it be when placed on a lap as thats the only problem i think i might have and would i notice it being on a slant? (and ya its abig laptop its the vortex 3 i just spent 1.6k on it)
