Laptop for daughter

My daughter is 11 and starting secondary schhol. I plan on getting her her own laptop for xmas. I'm not really up to date on what is good these days, so if any of you can throw some reccomendations my way it would be great.

Uses/Needs/Wants:
School work (MS office)
Gaming (Minecraft/Fortnite etc)
Netflix/Youtube general surfing.
Multi coloured keyboard if available

Budget:
£1200 as a ballpark figure but can be flexible on this if it will make a big difference/futureproofing

Any help appreciated.

Cheers!

edit:

I would aslso consider an all in one if it is better value or just better in general. I say laptop purely for the convenience and portability side of things.

Is there a specific reason you want a laptop? You're close to a full desktop budget which will let you get more bang for your buck, if a laptop is required though then of course that is the route to take

Plus...there's no danger of an 11 year old dropping a desktop or overheating it by using it on their bed...
Another vote for a desktop here, for all of the above reasons.

Do people really use laptops in bed;) :ROFLMAO:

Thanks for the input. Watch this space and I'll check with the boss tonight :)

Main reason for laptop was just the convenience side of things. She does have a big bedroom but its full of junk :ROFLMAO: I'm sure we could come up with a plan to sort her a work area.

in regards to getting a desktop, what are the opinions on a mini PC?

Mini Pc's are terrible, they have all the negatives of a desktop with none of the positives of the Laptop. They are the worst of both worlds

OK so I think the desktop route is a good option.
is 1200 a reasonable amount for the things i mentioned in the first post? Or do i need to change the budget?

This would be an entry level machine, it doesn't include keyboard/mouse/monitor though. It's a decent entry to 1080p gaming though but it's biggest strength is that it can be upgraded.

If you put a new GPU into this in a year or two when you have funds this came be a really solid high end machine.

Yes it will do everything you currently need it to do, but it can do a lot more with an appropriate GPU upgrade later down the line

Would a cheaper option be to use the 5700G APU (with it's 1050-like performance) and remove the GPU completely. Would mean a £80 budget towards monitor/keyboard/mouse...with the benefit of extra cores/threads?

Maybe even go down to the 5600G for another £100 saving towards peripherals?

Well the 1050Ti is significantly better than the iGPU in the 5700g. Also with regards to the 5700g it's performance over the 5600g is so small I don't think it's worth the extra cost. If I was to recommend one of the two it would be the 5600g

I think the 5600G is a better choice than the 1050 Ti. The games mentioned will all work perfectly fine at 1080p with the integrated graphics: add a £150 monitor and £50 worth of mouse and keyboard and you'd have a perfect entry-level gaming system. Then, in a year's time and say £300 more, you could upgrade with a graphics card and get top level performance.

I don't think the 5700G is worth buying for pretty much any purpose...
