Laptop for statistical work and research

Hi all,

I am looking for a new laptop for work (academic research) and I would greatly appreciate some technical help. My main activities are statistical analysis with dedicated software, spreadsheet, writing, presentations, video conferencing and cloud work.

I am looking for a lightweight, durable laptop with full SSD hard drive and non-plastic chassis, for safer portability. I am attracted by the form factor and the magnesium body of the Fusion Studio 14, with the specification attached below. My budget would be around £1,300. I have some questions related to my needs that I could not solve on my own: 1) What would be an approximate weight for the complete laptop (and the adaptor)? 2) Is there a significant difference in speed (besides for gaming) between the Corsair 2933MHz and the 2666MHz (if not, I would maybe opt for the 64 GB 2666MHz)? Alternatively, is the RAM replaceable on this build? 3) Is there a strong reason for choosing the 1TB SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 3500MB/R, 3300MB/W) hard disk over the 1TB INTEL 670p M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 3500MB/sR | 2500MB/sW), which would be cheaper, besides the writing speed? 4) Can I connect an external video with the integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics? Any strong reason for adding the NVIDIA GPU given my needs? Finally, any general suggestions or issues I haven't considered?

Hello,
I'll try to answer at the best of my knowledge ^^

1) I'd say 1.5kg max (i don't know the weight of the charger, but i'd say less than 500g - sprry, i'm not helpful here ^^")
2) I did pretty heavy statistical analysis for my phd with a laptop with 32go, and it never used all the ram, so, i think it may be better to go for the 32go 2933MHz
3) the samsung has a little better life expectancy (but, to be fair, you can take one or another, you'll not see the limit ^^) - if it was me, i'd go for the samsunf thought ^^
4) if i understand well the information given by the configurator, you may be able to connect one more monitor to the laptop ^^
so, you may not need the dedicated 3050 gpu ^^

And for the overall build, take win10 instead of win11
take the gold warranty and the 1 year dead pixel guarantee

(the cherry on the top : i just saw that this laptop support pcie4 gen ssd, so, you can take the samsung 980pro ^^)

Thanks for the reply and suggestions!

On your final point: would you suggest the samsung 980 pro for speeding up writing and reading? Would that give a tangible improvement on loading and saving datasets?
