Laptop Optimiser Tools

Hi

I've had my PC specialist laptop about a year now, software which loaded pretty much instantly a year ago now takes 30 seconds plus?

Can anyone recommend some trusted, free optimiser tools please?

Thanks

Could you post your full spec as detailed in the link below.

Personally, and assuming no hardware fault, I'd backup everything (although you probably already have a regular backup in place, don't you ;) ) and reinstall Windows to give you a nice & clean machine again.

Hi Tony, Thanks for the reply. I am backed up, tbh i was looking for a quicker maintenance fix rather than reinstall all software?

Do you still have Norton installed? If so, remove it, as it's no better than malware/nagware (but it shouldn't be slowing your machine down anymore than it was).

I'm not a laptop expert by any means (I have a works machine and that's about my level of expertise), but these are general to all computers:
  • Which drive is your boot drive? How full is it?
  • Have you installed any other 'performance' or 'AV' software?
  • Have you performed any physical cleaning/repasting of the CPU/GPU/airways?
If you must try something, then built-in/Microsoft tools may offer a lower risk alternative:

But if it's a specific app that's slowed down, then a reset (full uninstall and reinstall) of that app may be all that's needed.

Ok, thanks for the advice. Will steer clear of non MS clean up tools.

My 500GB boot drive is just over half full, all documents are stored on the larger 2TB drive which is about a third full.

A licence for norton came with the machine. Can you recommend an alternative VPN & Security software which doesn't affect performance so negatively?

Thanks
