Is this one you've bought already? Have you had it delivered?

We would STRONGLY recommend against this, there's almost no usage scenario where it makes any sense, it's really poor performance compared to an AMD build.

I ordered it couple of days ago. I was always told Intel was better for workstations. Is this not the case?

By no means whatsoever, Intel is about half the multithreaded performance of an equivalent AMD processor for around the same price.

Guess I will have to let you know if it performs well for designs and for VR gaming then

You're mad. Why would spend so much on such poor performance? Intel have even stopped producing HEDT chips this generation because they're so far behind.

The 5950x would absolutely destroy it for both gaming and multithreaded, and is a desktop processor. The 10920x is an HEDT processor so an equivalent AMD would be a threadripper.

I can't stress enough, that build will be outdated within a couple of years.

If you have only just ordered it and it's not been delivered you can change the specs and swap parts around.
I would strongly urge you to ask for posters on here for some ideas on how to better balance the build before it's despatched.
You will get a far superior system for your money

Like what though ?? I had AMD before and had nothing but trouble. Granted this was before the Ryzen stage but there is a reason people stick by Intel. I have had a pro look it over and said its a pretty decent build. Nothing wrong with the 10920x.
What would people recommend doing?

The 10920x is an awful awful processor, even Intel admit that:
First YouTube review

3950x vs Entire intel HEDT lineup

Saying there’s a reason people stick with intel shows just how behind you are, no one is staying with intel for workstation use, even 2 of their HEDT chips running in parallel can’t keep up with the desktop 5950x. That’s why they’ve pulled out of the range entirely this generation.

That second link is the only real comparison you’ll find as there is no comparison this generation, but the 5950x is substantially more powerful than the 3950x.

As I said, if you haven't had the build despatched and you want a few decent suggestions on how to have the build balanced better then post the build in the check the specs forums (see the notes on how to correctly list the build) along with budget, use of the system and monitor/s you'll be using and the very knowledgeable people on here will be more than happy to help design a system.

Yeah mate to be blunt, you're throwing away money for the performance of basically a 5 year old machine

Whoever this "Pro" is is woefully uninformed

10920x wasn't even good when it launched mate

"pro" was a PCSpecialist builder that I got in touch with after Spydertracks original message freaked me out.

They have said :

Hello.

Thank you for your email.

I am very sorry about that, can you please confirm if you going to be using this PC for gaming, if so please ignore what was suggested, I know AMD CPU are getting better but Threadripper isn’t good enough for gaming, it’s good for content creation, 3D rendering, animation.

If you still wisht to change the CPU please let me know.

If I can assist you any further then please do not hesitate to contact me.

As above, we’re not recommending threadripper, these are desktop processors. And even against intels desktop range for gaming they far outperform intel.

What you have configured is an HEDT processor which is the group that threadripper is a part of. They’d be utterly useless for gaming, but the intels are even worse for workstation performance.

It’s all in the links above in black and white, can’t help you if you’re not going to take the time to help yourself.

Never said you wasn't helping me. You pushed me to do some research on the things mentioned.
But it just comes across as Intel bashing by some. A tad unprofessional and if builders are saying its fine. Why is it not. What are your credentials to state that its not decent.

Its not help when its mocking.

I did not post in the Check my spec, I posted in show-off.

Didn't ask for anyone's help or "opinions" so don't try and make me feel small about standing up for myself and what I thought was right.

You "bow" out

No one here is mocking, we just stating facts and the fact is Intel are inferior to AMD processors in pretty much every metric that matters at the minute. This isn't bashing it's just facts

People are saying Intel are garbage right now because Intel are garbage right now. There's nothing personal in it, it's just how the market it is, Intel and AMD have effectively switched places with AMD making all the strides in CPU performance, optimisation, features, power consumption, security, temperature controls, etc, etc, etc. Whereas Intel are still selling their old architecture as new and still trying to cram it all into a same sized chip with the 14nm structure and it's just not working.

This isn't my opinion all the data is there for you to see you just have to read it. None of us here work for PCS we're just enthusiasts who like computers and we like helping people get the best possible deals for their money. That's what we're here for to get you the best deal for your cash and the best system that suites your needs but at the end of the day it's you who makes the decision

Intel are not a good deal, it's unfortunate but it's just how it is

Okie dokie, I’m locking this thread. OP has stated that they don’t want advice on their build so we should respect their wishes and leave it at that.
