Liquid Cooled system not turned on in 12 months

Hi,

I've just moved to Australia and I left my machine in the UK for 10 months. I've just got it delivered to me but the machine hasn't been turned on for 12 months. I've been told that there shouldn't be any issues but I'm curious to get some second opinions.

Does anyone anticipate that I'll have issues or does someone else have any experience with leaving a water cooled system for long periods of time?

Thanks in advance for anyone that responds,
Cheers

Congratulations on the move, hope it’s working out for you.

Can you post the full specs from the order page just so we can see what we’re dealing with?

I'll have to leave this to someone more in the know about open loops, but they'll be along later on.

I had a friend who moved to Australia and his system was left for 6 months, when he got it he said he checked for leaks, made sure nothing had worked loose and then powered it on and monitored the temperatures to make sure there was no air leaks etc.
Not sure if he had a full open loop or not though.

HTH.

Did you empty the system? Not sure if the EK system was hardline or not .Hard line you always want to empty before moving, just in case it leaks. If you haven't removed the fluid and there aren't any leaks then I would suggest it's fine to turn on. I would have a proper look inside with a torch just to make sure there isn't any moisture.

If you are re-filling it, simply fill up the reservoir, give it a couple of mins then switch it on. Keep a VERY close eye on it with a torch, monitoring all around for drips.

It will always take a bit of time for the unit to prime and for any air bubbles to leak out but an hour or so of running would see it good. Check the pump for weird noises, often an indication of an air lock.

Most of the liquids are fine if they contact electrickery but best not to take the chance where possible and it's always a pain to clean up.

As above, if drained it should be ok. If you didnt you might find the cooling medium has sludged up a little.

Deffo give each component a check to make sure everything is seated correctly before turning on

Thanks to everyone for their input. I managed to start up the machine with no problems (I'm using it to send this message :D), checking the pump and tubes for any leakage. I've been paying close attention to everything each time I start up the machine. It had been in storage the entire time and so it was in complete darkness; I checked for moisture and couldn't find a thing. Thanks to everyone who took the time to have their input!

Sounds like all is well. Once the system is up to temperature and you have given it a thorough pasting you will know it'll be absolutely fine. Maxing out the pump pressure etc will show any weaknesses. It would be unlikely now though so all sounds well.
