Hi Everyone,

Not been on the forums for a while and didn't actually get round to ordering my PC.

Thanks for your reply Oussebon :)

Predominantly it will be used for Football Manager, however I may also dip my toes into other games as well. I won’t be doing any video editing or Photoshop.

I had a £1000 budget orginally however for what I was looking at is more. Monitor wise I would need to buy something. Perhaps 1080p to start with?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

Andrew

I wouldn't get the system pre-OCed as Ryzen's boosting features are decent and the gains from the OC are minimal - depending how PCS do it you can actually lose performance.

A non-OCed build also opens up the Gigabyte X470 mobo which hsa a similar set of features for ~£70 less.

You can stick to the RX 580 unless you're really bothered about about all 3 free games (you get 2 with 580, 3 with 590 https://www.amd.com/en/gaming/raise-the-game). Save yourself £40 and some power consumption.

Maybe get a cheaper CPU cooler like the CM212x.

Thanks Oussebon :)

Would you say Ryzen is good value for money? I was looking at the i7-9700K but it's very expensive.

Intel have a shortage of manufacturing capacity for their 14nm stuff. So prices are currently very high. Intel's default pricing makes value for money hard to argue, and the current shortage makes it more or less impossible. :)

For my uses would I see any major advantage going for a i7-9700k over the AMD Ryzen 7 2700X?

I couldn't say. These are the latest FM benchmarks in the community: https://community.sigames.com/topic/421162-fm18-performance-benchmarking-thread/

There's no 2700x or 2nd gen Ryzen of any kind. There's only the R5 1600 which is slower, has fewer cores, and is 1st gen so doesn't benefit from 2nd gen improvements. So tells us nothing.

An overclocked 9700k would probably be faster in FM, I just can't tell you how much faster. And it's up to you whether that would constitute £200's worth of "faster" - or whatever the difference is between R7 2700x + X470 Ultra Gaming and i7 9700k and AORUS Pro.

You could always wait for Ryzen 3000 (Zen 2) in the coming year. And Navi GPUs. See if anything comes out at CES 2019 in Jan ;)

Hi Oussebon,

Looking to order today I am having trouble trying to post spec to the forum option as it doesn't seem to be working. I just wondered what your thoughts are on the THERMALTAKE V200 TEMPERED GLASS RGB EDITION GAMING CASE?

I am looking for a fairly small case as limited room in our spare bedroom, but this seems to have good cooling and quite a spacious case for it's size. Also I was looking at going for the 500GB WD Black™ M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD to save a little cash instead of the Samsung, do you think I would notice any difference in performance?

Thank you

Andrew

I was having that problem posting specs yesterday.

I'd avoid the V200 as some smaller website reviews suggested airflow was an issue, which I can believe with the small spaces for air intake at the front. The Corsair 460x would be better, though PCS are out of stock. You could phone them today to ask about stock, or send in your own case.

I think you'd notice no difference at all. Go for the ED Black in view of the price difference.

What do you think of the Fractal Focus G Black Gaming Case or the Fractal Design Meshify C?

Both are fine :)

Meshify's dust filters looks better / easier to get at and clean anyway.

These kinds of cases often have less space for extra HDDs, so you might want to get a 3TB HDD as storage vs price ratio is decent and it will save you thinking about adding more HDDs for some time.

It doesn't. I'd suggest the AC1200 wifi card since it gives the option of the 5GHz band on modern routers.

Still waiting for the Corsair 460x to come back into stock. Amazon do the case but it’s £150 on there!

Failing that was going to send in my own case. Is there any other cases you would recommend? Looking for something fairly compact. I’m just not sure on the Meshifys design and doesn’t look as good as the 460X?

Thanks :)

The design is fine for the Meshify, I suppose it's just down to aesthetic preference, if you want the bundled RGB fans.

PCS have the 570X by Corsair. It's a bit bigger, but still not truly massive:
480mm (L) x 234mm (W) x 512mm (H) https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Cases/570x-rgb-config/p/CC-9011098-WW#
440mm (L) x 220mm (W) x 464mm (H) https://www.corsair.com/uk/en/Categ...GB-Compact-ATX-Mid-Tower-Case/p/CC-9011101-WW

If you're looking for a mid-range priced case to send in to PCS that isn't too large, try the NZXT S340, which PCS used to offer. It's ~£70 or so in most places. Or from PCS's range the Corsair 275R is fine.

In terms of CPU now having second thoughts about the 2700X. I was looking at the below site for benchmarks and the Ryzen 2700X is quite far down the the list?
