would it be rog strix 3070 or nvidia geforce rtx 3070, or nvidia geforce rtx 3070 ti..?
Like what's the difference if theyre the same model?
The 3070 and strix 3070 are the same GPU but different models. The Asus is far more expensive although performance is around the same for any card of the same GPU. The standard 3070 selection is a pot luck of which make and model you get. The reason the strix is separated is because it's substantially more expensive.

The 3070ti is a different GPU.

A standard nvidia 3070 would be in line with your budget rog strix is branded and in my opinion not worth the increase in price and the 3070ti is a better version of the standard 3070 but again in my opinion not worth the extra cost
Thankyou for that, clears a lot up. I wasn't aware rog strix was actually the brand

so is the rayzen 5 5600x cpu and the b550plus motherboard , along with the 3070 gpu suitable for a build together?

This is what I've come up with. This won't be a truly 'quiet' build as honestly you don't really have the budget with the market the way it is, but I feel this should be perfectly acceptable.

4000D not the quietest, but the more budget 'quiet' cases are pretty oven like. For a gaming load, the difference between a 3200mhz and 3600mhz RAM is pretty minimal so I've swapped to 3200mhz to save some cash, at it looks like has been figured out, the "ASUS" brand cards aren't really worth it currently. They are better cards, but not significantly so and you'd be paying more to have an increased wait time. For storage, I haven't used any of the PCS drives so they're all brand names that are well known. The 500GB Samsung SSD will be your boot drive for Windows and applications, the 1TB Intel SSD will be for games and the 1TB Seagate Hard drive will be for your movies and other general files. The PSU is a high quality unit that will run quietly and last for the lifetime of this PC. The stock cooler is suitable to handle the 5600X although not the quietest. I've removed the USB PCIe card as the standard array of ports on the back of the motherboard will be suitable for most people. If you're looking for more, you could always pick up an inexpensive hub off Amazon. For your disc drive, dependant on just how reliant you'll be on it, I'd recommend picking up an external one. Having a disc drive massively reduces your case choice and having an external one just means you can plug it in whenever you need to use it.

The build you purchase will depend a lot on how much emphesis you want to put on quiet. For the average person, I reckon this'll be a perfectly acceptable level, where as if you're looking for something specifically quiet, you'll have to start upgrading parts to reduce noise. This obviously comes at a cost which either means an increase in budget, or a reduce performance. To make this a truly 'quiet' build, I reckon you'd be looking at about £60 for a good case, £100 for a CPU cooler and maybe £40-50 to make that HDD into an SSD. Swapping to a 1080p build would free up this money, but the difference between 1080p and 1440p is pretty night and day.

Okay so I went into Currys today and found the monitor size I'm looking for is most likely 24"... I'm assuming I'd have to go for 1080p for that as I've not found any 1440p ones under 26".... and if so, would I need to change anything in my current spec..?

Would you recommend staying at 1080p for a 24 inch screen?

Yes, you need 27” for 1440p. I wouldn’t restrict my monitor size for the sake of space as 1080p is a really inferior experience by today’s standards. Monitors aren’t designed to be stood on a desk anymore, they’re designed to be mounted on a desk stand or wall bracket.

Yeah honestly, the move from 1080p to 1440p was massive to me. It's definitely worth the investment in my opinion.

I just threw together a 1080p build to match a potential monitor, I'd still recommend going 1440p though and finding a way to make the monitor fit.

There are good 1440p monitors in the 24in size. I don't think 1440p is over the top for 24in. It's 122 dpi. Some companies (hi Apple) sell their 24in AIO PCs with a 4.5k display. Clearly then there must people out there who think 1440p is a bit too low for 24in!

I'd say reconsider buying a 24in 1080p. I really think that 27in 1440p is a much nicer size for pretty much anything. Over the years I've constantly moved to larger displays and never regretted it. I now use nothing smaller than 32in and find 27in a bit small.

I have no idea what my current screen is (it's only 14 inch laptop) but it seems more than sufficient for me sizewise?

I definitely wouldn't be mounting it to the wall as I don't really have the right place for it,
I can fit it on my desk as a 27 inch, but it just means I won't have much space myself...

Again, I don't need powerful graphics, as speed is most important forme, so nicer graphics are more just a bonus to me if that makes sense

They didn't actually have the 27 inch models in stock (typical) for me to see, but I did see the 24 inch and thought it looked about right for me.

You said that 24 inch 1440p models do exist?

You can mount to a desk mate, it's just a pole that connects to the desk and holds the monitor above it so it takes up no desk space

24 inch 1440p models do exist but the issues are
a) they have a refresh rate down at say 60 or 75Hz which may not be ideal for some forms of gaming.
b) the panels are TN, which are typically inferior to IPS or VA panels.

An example of a 24inch 1440p high refresh TN panel monitor is
It's a model first produced in (I think) 2017 and hasn't been updated since then. It's also virtually the same price as a 27 inch panel.

So do they exist? Yes. Would I recommend? No.
If desk space is an issue for a 27 inch then (as others have said) attach the monitor to a desk clamp or ... umm ... buy a bigger desk?
