Looking to build a budget PC

You’ve configured a PC from the AMD home office selection - I’d highly recommend you go and configure one from the AMD gaming pc option (the one with a budget between £400 and £4000) as it allows you to configure faster RAM (and dual channel) and its better for your PC. I’d suggest the RAM be a 2 x 8 3200mhz 16gb and the PSU at the very least 750W so your pc has a longer life span and theres room for upgrading.

I also recommend that you have a 500gb SSD for your OS to be on - if you stretch your budget by another £100 then you’ll have a lot better options for your build, or if this is the highest you can go, I’d suggest swapping to the normal 3060 and balancing your spec off of that.

This isn't a gaming build so there's zero requirement for such a high configuration.

With a gaming GPU (there's currently only 3000 series available as 2000 series have stopped production) it's over budget, but you'd need the GPU to power the screen for gaming, if you don't want gaming, just drop the GPU to the GT1030 and it will bring you under budget:

Thanks so much for taking the time to do that, I've got some questions if you don't mind.

You said above that this isn't a gaming build then what is it?

How much life does this build have in terms of gaming?

Can it run cyberpunk 2077 well at say high graphics setting?

What do I need to learn in terms of computer maintenance, etc, with this computer to keep it healthy?

Not sure how to put this other than bluntly...
Theyve already considerably stretched your budget to try and get the best, but Cyberpunk 2077 is a brand new AAA title, expecting to play on full settings is likely expecting too much for less than 1.5K (especially with current prices being so high)

I would imagine it would run, but you would have to use mid range or lower settings for it to run smoothly, you said its a 4K screen?

In terms of lifespan, increasing the PSU to a 750w or 850w unit would mean the build would be well positioned to take a couple of GPU upgrades, meaning the machine would still be good for gaming 8 or 9 years down the line, the one at the moment wont allow that.
But again, you are adding more and more to the budget.

Considering you started off looking at a third of what the current price would be, I would really recommend you sit back and think what it is you want from this, and exactly what your budget is. If you need just a computer to do general use/office stuff or do you want a gaming machine, and if a gaming machine, a custom rig is generally aimed at the idea you invest heavily at the start, and then just upgrade GPU every few years to get 10 years out of a system. Much cheaper in the long term, but far more expensive setting off.

It feels a lot like you are just getting caught up atm, and the last thing anyone wants you to do is take something you arent in the position to afford or thats a complete overshoot for what you actually need.

So you need to set yourself some boundaries on this one.

Its changed a few times as its gone along... and now asking about cyberpunk, so its getting confusing.

OP needs to have a proper think about what they want, what the budget genuinely is and then see whats realistic from it.

If you're wanting a 4k gaming PC for AAA titles, you're looking at around a £2000 build with an RTX 2070, there's no way around that, you can't do it cheaper.

The one I configured above is scraping the barrel for an entry level build. It's not what I would choose and won't game at all well on your monitor for anything other than the old point and click games you mentioned previously.

Budget can be stretched to 1500, I did originally want an office pc but as I’m selling PS4 pro and will have nothing to game on I do actually want a gaming pc. My last one was bought off of Amazon pre built and it’s not something I would like to do again. In terms of playing cyberpunk at high settings, medium settings is great and I’m sure it would handle that. I didn’t mean ultra settings at all. Same with new releases. Basically I changed my mind full circle since my original posting and it’s not an off the cuff decision

To @JDW27 my apologies for the thread derailing there by a few people, there was no cause for that.

The build @Ash_ has configured is about the best you can do at £1500. It would struggle at 4k, my suggestion would be to get a 1440p 144Hz monitor which would give a better gaming experience anyway than 4k 60Hz, then save your 4k monitor for movies and work.
