Hi there,

I'm looking at the Ultranote IV and wondering i can get away with an m.2 SSD only.. I don't need more than 256gb storage on the laptop but I want it to feel fast. Is it resilient enough memory to be the main drive?

cheers for any advice

Yes. There's absolutely no issue with an SSD as the main drive.

Which M.2 SSD are you going for?

Ah great, thanks. I was planning to get the 256GB SAMSUNG PM961 M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 2800MB/R, 1100MB/W) - seems to be at a really nice price point for the performance.

I have a laptop HDD knocking around i can put into the main bay if I need more bulk storage, but this is an on-the-go coding/netflix machine, not too much media going on here.

I take it these are easy enough to open up and upgrade?

I helped my mum choose what to pick for a new ultranote with only an ssd in it a few weeks ago. Her previous laptop she was using was a dell inspiron from circa 2009. She then moaned last week when I saw her that she didn't think the new one was any faster at turning on. I timed them both from button press to being into windows. The ultranote took about 17 seconds. The dell took over 4 minutes. Old people.
