I purchased a gaming PC (https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/files...01reviewv2.jpg) from PC Specialist some time ago and it has 2x 8gb sticks Corsair Vengence 16gb RAM installed. The part number is CM4X8GD3000C16K4.

I want to upgrade to 32GB and can't find this matching part number. Is this OEM part number. What RAM would be compatible to upgrade with.

Thanks.

Yes, that's an OEM part number.

Firstly, why do you want more RAM?

This should be fine to pair with it:

@SpyderTracks More for my own knowledge but I didn't think you could mix and match RAM of different frequencies? So 2133 would need to be matched with 2133? Or will the system simply limit the 3000 down to 2133?
It's baseline 2133, but if you look to the right it's got XMP2193 section which is enabled pushing it to 3000, so it is in fact 3000mhz RAM, but the boards default is 2133 and it's essentially then "overclocked" via XMP to 3000mhz.

XMP stands for "extreme memory profile" which is in essence just a built in overclock of the motherboard.

Got you...didn't realise that XMP could boost them that much
Yeah, Intel boards pretty much all default to 2133, even now, it's crazy.

AMD boards I think default at 3200.

But then AMD boards can go much higher for stable RAM XMP's and overclocking compared to Intel anyway.

Add to that that Intel have now locked off any memory overclocking or XMP's past 2933MHz on anything lower than Z490 boards, they've locked it out in the BIOS, totally needlessly.

I really don't know what Intel are playing at, it's just bonkers imho.

Edit, ah it looks like board partners have managed to sidestep the lock:

That article about sidestepping the lock seems to be all about over-riding the clock lock on non-k Intel CPUs rather than RAM.
Yeah, XMP is essentially overclocking the memory fabric of the CPU, so it's effectively a CPU overclock.

This is Intel's official stance on any kind of XMP:

"Enabling and use of Intel® XMP is a type of overclocking1, and will ultimately void the CPU warranty. Altering clock frequency or voltage may damage or reduce the useful life of the processor and other system components, and may reduce system stability and performance. Product warranties may not apply if the processor is operated beyond its specifications. Check with the manufacturers of system and components for additional details."

UNLESS you buy their specific XMP overclocking warranty which isn't advertised anywhere on any partners where you would actually buy their products:

"If a processor is overclocked using Intel® Extreme Memory Profile (Intel® XMP), the Performance Tuning Protection Plan (PTPP) plan will cover the processor but not the memory. "

And yes, they do actually enforce this if you were to try and get warranty direct through Intel. Because of this (perhaps) they've unecessarily locked down memory XMP's on all their boards except Z490 I think.

So.... Intel provide their own software to let you overclock an Intel CPU and then void your warranty if you use it. Do I have that right?

Thanks for the help/suggestion.

I need to run VM's for work and 16gb is enough for now, but may need upgrading in the near future.

The suggested memory above is Cas 15, the one installed is Cas 16, is compability an issue with mismatching CAS.

I have found this, the closet to what I have. CMK16GX4M2D3000C16 https://www.scan.co.uk/products/16g...000-non-ecc-unbuffered-cas-16-20-20-38-xmp-20

Will this be ok.

Hi.

Would someone be able to answer the last question , as I'm in exactly the same boat.
In fact, I have exactly the same pc as the original poster, and also want to upgrade with another 2 x 8GB sticks.
As previously mentioned the part number of the memory in our system is no longer available, and as far as I can see the one Munsoo mentions above (from Scan) seems the closest - but the CAS rating is slightly different to existing sticks (which are CM4X8GD3000C16K4 - 16-18-18-36). The sticks from Scan are CAS 16-20-20-38, will this cause any problems / speed loss etc?

Much appreciated!
