Monitor for Gaming

I've just purchased a Gaming PC with a 780Ti GPU.

Currently I've using an old Monitor while I save some money for a new one. But my question is what the best monitor I can get is?

Would I be better with a 1080p monitor or a 1440p?
I'm just a little unsure because 1080p monitors seem to have better refresh rates. What’s more important?

It will be a waste for a 1080 monitor, I would get a 1440p monitor. Iiyama prolite 27"

Whereas Refresh rates are important, once you get to 120Hz and above it probably doesn't matter too much, as Keynes said, get a higher resolution monitor as you'll get a 'better' picture and use the 780Ti a little more

The Iiyama ProLite 27" was one of the monitors I was looking at as well. Better get saving some money

I've got one coming tomorrow for a pc I ordered from here with a 780Ti too Until PCS build and deliver it will be used on my current machine with a GTX 780.
