Customising 15.6" laptop, for gaming and coding at uni, any advices?

The specs I built here is mostly for some gaming and general uni work for software engineering.

The main question is I pay an extra £200 for the 72% ntsc screen over the 45% ntsc screen at 120Hz, is the difference worth the price jump?
This build is priced at £1,450 roughly; £1,500 being my budget limit.

Thermal Paste ARCTIC MX-4 EXTREME THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY COMPOUND

USB/Thunderbolt Options 1 x THUNDERBOLT 3 PORT + 3 x USB 3.2 PORTS

Also about the sticky thread on caring for custom laptops, how often would you say it needs taking apart and cleaning, adding thermal paste etc?

Any pointers would be great :)

Hi @Ejaycol can you post the full specs rather than just a couple of items including ideally the link to reconfigure?

Whats your budget for this laptop? I assume around the £1450 mark? Still good to get that confirmed.

The screen question I guess depends on whether you're using it for colour reprouduction, I'm not sure it matters 'as much' if you're just using it to play games, but if you're planning on editing images etc. on it then perhaps a higher % Gamut screen is preferential.

As for 'how often' to clean etc. I think that is a difficult one to say, its (unhelpfully) as often as is necessary. As Smokedarknight noted in the guide (How to clean your laptop), the images were after 1 month use in his case.

Whoops sorry mate I condensed it to what I thought what people might want to see.

Yeah £1500 is my maximum in this case, and I wanted at least 16gb ram, 1tb of ssd.
Would've happily knocked the cpu down to i7 8th gen and the RTX to a GTX 1070 but those options don't seem available anymore!

As far as I know now, I won't be doing much in the way of video editing, so if 45% is acceptable for general gaming and coding purposes then I'd opt for it I think.

No problem, I'll check that thread out and I'm sure I'll be able to take care of it myself :)

Cleaned up the spec list.
I also just read apparently the AMD Ryzen 3900x is a better bet than the current Intel cpu's for the price?

Hi all, posted earlier but didn't see the 'post to forum' function that time, so this may be easier to read!

My budget is at the very most £1.5k but keeping costs done is far more preferable to maxing it out to that figure.

Looking to use this for gaming and software development during uni, no video editing and the like.

The AMD Ryzen 4800H apparently outperforms the i7 chips the reviews I've read, but seems cheaper than them.. Is this too good to be true taking AMD over Intel?
