In the last few days I've noticed that the left hand mouse button sometimes either double clicks or does a right button click.

I'm not sure if it's the mouse or the driver, I've tried with an old PS/2 mouse using a USB adapter & that seems to work OK, but I don't have another USB mouse to test out the driver.

How old is the mouse? It could unfortunately be a hardware issue? I've seen it a few times with mice in the past.

I'd give PCS a call they may be able to send you another one out if you're still within warranty?

The mouse is just over a year old so I think it's probably just out of warranty.

My wife has managed to borrow a USB mouse from work, which is working OK so it's probably a problem with my mouse.

Ah... while its good you appear to have got to the bottom of the problem it sucks that its the mouse itself, its maybe still worth contacting PCS to ask about it, perhaps it has a 2 year manufacturer warranty which you can lean on (I've no idea, but its probably worth asking :) ).

PCS said they could replace the mouse, but wanted me to post it back to them, which is hardly worth it for a £5 item.

At the weekend I opened up the mouse & cleaned out the small about of dust and fluff that had built up inside.

This seems to have done job, yesterday, it was occasionally acting up yesterday, but this evening it's behaved itself.

That's disappointing really but I guess its not an unreasonable request...

Good job on giving the cleaning/etc. a go, you've got nothing to loose essentially now. If it breaks/starts misbehaving again, might be time to retire it and get a new one.
