Hi,

It's took me a while to work out this spec. I will be using this PC for VR, work (software engineer that uses high resource simulators and multiple VMs), music production, streaming, and whatever else I can think of in the future.

Any thoughts on compatibility and getting the most from the GPU, etc.

Budget is about £3500.

Have a little look at this link, if you could feed back with the link etc it would help.

I think the 5950x is likely a good fit for VMs etc.

What VR Headset is it you're using? Only VR gaming I take it, no screen utilisation?

Any reason for the 12GB VRAM selection on the GPU? Will it be heavily utilised for your simulation software?

What's the budget?

There's no way that H60 will be sufficient to cool a 5950X, H115 or H150 is what I'd be looking at.

Hi,

Thanks for the response.

The budget is mentioned above: about £3500

I'm not sure on screen, but at some point will probably utilise a decent one. Maybe for gaming or video editing. Either way, I don't want to rule out having a top spec.

The VR is just an Oculus Quest, but may buy another one in the future. Potentially looking to host virtual music gigs that will utilise 360 cameras whilst live streaming.

I chose that GPU for VR, simulator software and maybe some other applications I have in mind. It just about fit into my budget so seemed like the best choice. What's your thoughts on it for VR?

Glad you agree with the CPU. I had a good think about that one Vs an Intel i9. The AMD seemed better value for similar speed.

Sorry for not posting correctly. It's been a long day.

Hi Mate, some notes but first off this is much easier if you include the green link at the bottom of the page from where you copy and pasted the spec. Just makes this less tedious and we can show you our changes instead of trying to explain them

With the 5950x the X570 STRIXX is probably fine but personally I would want the CROSSHAIR HERO. That's just me though

The 3080 minimum recommendation from Nvidia on power consumption is 850W. I personally wouldn't want the minimum and looking at the next generation of GPU's things are going to get stupid with power consumption. Bare minimum for me personally would be the 1000W RMx

The Samsung 970 Evo was brilliant 4 years ago and has been massively superseded by the Samsung 980 Pro, The Firecuda 530, etc. It's just not recommended. We also generally recommend a dedicated boot drive and then the rest of the storage to go to a secondary M.2 Drive so you can have the OS separate from the rest of the processes

The extra thermal paste isn't needed the Corsair CPU coolers come with their own pre applied high quality paste. I'd remove this

Sound cards aren't really a thing anymore mate, the onboard sound cards on motherboards these days are excellent and for anything better than that you would want an external source that are specifically made for these proposes

Hope this helps

Ah okay, sorry didn't see the link. Here it is: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/amd-am4-overclocked/2RN0hhkAQJ/

Why would you chose the CROSSHAIR HERO? Better suited to the CPU? Will get better performance?

Good point about the power supply and GPU. I'll do that.

Another good point about the SSD. I didn't see the pro version in the list. I already have a PC with multiple large SSD's, which i'll be installing into this new machine once I get it. So the 2TB will probably just be for the OS and maybe a partition as well.

Thanks for the cooler tip; I have no experience with these so just picked what sounded best.

Sound card wise, don't you get faster speeds if it's directly connected to the mother board than an external over USB? Do you have any recommendations for external sound cards?

Thanks for all the great feedback.
