Multiple Issues With New Purchase

Hi Guys,

below is a few issues i have along with my spec and i want to see if its more simple to resolve instead of returning to PC specialist.

Spec:

Ryzen 5 2600x
16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 Ram 2933 MHz
Nvidia Geforce 8GB RTX 2080
Corsair H100 CPU Cooling
Aorus Ultra Gaming x470 Motherboard
Corsair 750W Gold Ultra Quiet PSU
3+ TB of storage

Issue 1: when checking control panel i permanently have 8.1GB of RAM 'hardware reserved' i have tried the simple fixes such as un-ticking the box in msconfig for maximum memory to no avail ? this has been bugging me but im not sure if there is an easy bios fix as im a rookie to this interface.

Issue 2: when opening ryzen core master my EDC was running at 95-99% consistently doing nothing, running at stock core levels and no overclocking present, i have disabled automatic core overdrive and things but in my system i would of thought i shouldn't have to do such a thing ? as such my edc has lowered, but id like to think i can push my cores and have this feature enabled.

Issue 3: Not sure if this is due to the above issues or the game, but im averaging only like 50 fps on anthem on high / ultra settings. This seems overly low.

Note / Disclaimer: Im not the most in-tune PC gamer so any feedback / comments is appreciated.

Did you buy it with Windows or did you install your own copy?

If you installed your own copy of Windows are you sure you installed the 64-bit version and not a 32-bit one?

If you bought a copy of Windows with it then phone PCS and talk this through with them. The graphics card will reserve RAM and this shows as 'hardware reserved' but not 8.3GB.

I got one off PCS, and okay ill contact them this afternoon, any advice on the other points ?
From what you describe it sounds as though something just isn't right, I'm not at all sure what the problem might be however. Talk all of your issues over with PCS (I suspect they may be related) and see what they suggest. I'm sure you'll find them helpful.

If it were mine the first thing I'd do would be a clean reinstall of Windows from downloaded media. Use a custom install, delete all existing partitions on the system drive (so it all shows as 'unallocated space'). The installer will then create all the necessary partitions and install Windows into the right one. Once Windows is installed keep running Windows Update until there are no more updates found. This will (should) install all the necessary drivers. See how the RAM looks after that, if you still see 8.3GB hardware reserved I would suspect a hardware issue.

Do let us all know how you get on. :)

I'm not familiar with Ryzen Master at all, but this is one of the first things I found on google:

As far as I understand it, the high EDC just means your CPU is using boosted frequencies. What CPU frequencies are you seeing in games?

If the frequencies look right i.e. you're getting frequencies on some cores around 4.2GHz with a high EDC, that would be normal. The solution to having cores operating at high frequencies, if you want to save on power, is to adjust the power plan / use the Ryzen Balanced power plan as talked about in that thread.

As for Anthem, performance does apparently suck a bit, generally.

Have you tried something like Firestrike (which is free), comparing your scores to other systems?

Issue 1 - What motherboard did you order? Or alternatively PM me your order number :).

Issue 2 - Could be just a bug with Ryzen Master https://community.amd.com/thread/230768. I'd test in bench marks (not anthem due to its troubled dev cycle :) ).

Issue 3 - Try a benchmark like superposition or firestrike to see what scores you are getting and see if it compares with other users.

EDIT - whoops OUSSEBON beat me to it :)

Thanks for the replies,

i will send you a private message regarding spec and issues when i finish in work.

I'll also download firestrike for the benchmark comparisons.

Hi Guys,

Downloaded and ran timespy, with a score of 9181,

graphics card seems to be solid and performing at expectations however CPU seems to be less so.

Score with my spec average around 10-10.5k so definitely under despite the high benchmark.

For Firestrike, post the individual scores - or link to your result if you validated it. The overall score doesn't tell us much. :)

To check the RAM, use CPU-Z https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
On the SPD tab, what does it show in each of the 4 slots? Can you post a screenshot (or link on imgur if the forum doesn't let you?).

At this point I'm guessing it will tell us that there is only RAM in 1 slot

I'm wondering if 1 stick isn't properly seated, but you might as well check what CPU-Z says before you try reseating.
And if so, it's possible it's running lower frequency just because the profile needs setting up in the BIOS again.
Running single channel and lower frequency RAM could help explain the lower scores.

also timespy reported i only had 8GB of ram and at 2667 Mhz not 16GB 2933 Mhz which should be installed
Hey Callum, I would recommend to check the physically detected memory in the BIOS by tapping DEL on start up, it should show you the amount fairly obviously if it auto boots to the easy bios mode. If its advanced mode with all the tabs then go to BIOS tab and it should show you on the right hand side (under the CPU stats).

I have checked our logs and it was present before your PC shut down as this is a snippet from the QC log RAM: 16384 Mb?Q:2

If the BIOS still shows 16GB present then you could try re-installing Windows (if you haven't already) and then get the latest drivers from the Gigabyte website.

https://www.gigabyte.com/uk/Motherboard/X470-AORUS-ULTRA-GAMING-rev-10#support-dl-driver-chipset

Looking at the gigabyte website there is a new bios released 3 days ago which you could always try.:coffee:

Finally the folks on the support lines could guide you more over the phone on how to update the bios if you are not familiar with Gigabyte bios updates and they might have more suggestions :)
