Hello, I'm having a bit of an issue with my CPU temps and i'm hoping someone has some answers. When i download/install a game on steam for example or a windows update the temp jumps to 80+ degrees before the fan revs up and gets it down to 65-70+ while its working. When i play a game on the other hand,Grounded for example,it jumps to 90 degrees and stays around that even with the fan going nuts(i have a cooler under the laptop as well). I'm playing that game on epic setting and the rtx3080 is laughing at it with 60 degrees. So why is the CPU temp going so high when the GPU isn't even bothered on graphics like that? I've installed HWinfo64 and Aida64 in hopes that they would show something i'm not seeing and they are showing the CPU clock speed hovering around 4788mhz constantly when not doing much and 4688mhz while in Grounded... That is very wierd to me... Shouldn't it stay around its stock clock speed? since as far as i know it's not overclocked.
Had to send it back for repairs almost 3 weeks ago cause it had an instant shutdown while i was playing and didn't want to power up again, got it back today 27.10 with a fresh copy of windows so i made sure to install everything needed(all pcspecialist drivers and windows updates). Before the incident it had the same problem with the cpu temp (surprised it didn't get picked up on the stress tests) and i found a way around it with a registry change on the intelppm.sys while trying to fix a bsod (was missing a driver, fixed it),the cpu temp stayed around 70 degrees with the registry change while playing games and even less when downloading so i kept the change, didn't affect performance or anything. I know the i9 is supposed to run a bit hot but 90 degrees seems a bit much, especially for very long gaming sessions. I'm gonna wait to see if anyone has any ideea on what's going on and if there's anything to be done to fix this before i apply the registry change again and move on. Thank you in advance.

Hello
As i have a recoil (but with the i7) I understand your "problem" with the cpu

So, first, it's "normal" that your CPU run this hot and it can go up to 105 degrees without trottlestop

Then, as I was a little bit concerned by the same thing, I did a "manual" fan configuration within the control center (I set the speed a little bit higher for cooler temperature so, the cpu stay "cooler")

The second solution you can "use" is the undervolting, it can help by decreasing the temp by some degrees too

For what you did, I can't give you any return as I'm not good enough for it :)

Edit : What "mode" are you using in the control center ? performance or "entertainment" ?
Because i saw that the performance overvolt the cpu by 5 (or 10) mV so the cpu run even hotter than usual ^^

I was using performance mode, switched to entertainment/balanced mode,it's not hovering on that high frequency so much anymore when not doing much but in game it's just a 1-2 degrees difference which again is not optimal for a long gaming session, not to mention the loudness of the fans... Thank you for the suggestions,i might consider the undervolting ideea if there's no other solution.

Should i repaste it? Should i undervolt it? What should i do cause just watching a video on amazon gets it to like 50-60 degrees, nevermind gaming...

I changed the maximum processor state to 99% and it seems to be working well, temp is way lower than before, around 60+ degrees with the fan at 2k-3k rpm while playing,no problems in game just nice and fluent as it should be. In the balanced power plan,if i turn the battery up to best performance it doesn't seem to care about the maximum processor state value,it goes back to those high speeds and temps so i'll just keep it in the middle on better performance.
