My PC freezes whilst playing videos and movies

Hi

I'm new to owning a gaming PC. I own the PCSPECIALIST Tornado A5X Gaming PC - AMD Ryzen 5, RX 6600 XT, 2TB HDD & 512GB SSD. The PC works fine playing videogames and watching videos on websites. However, occasionally whilst watching a movie or a video the screen will freeze. My cursor can still move but I can't interact with anything. I can open the Start menu and try to shut the PC down but it does nothing. The only choice I have is to switch the PC off via the power button, which I don't want to do. If I try to open Chrome or any other app, nothing happens.

It happens with any video-playing software - Films & TV, Windows Media Player, VLC player, etc. I'm not great with technology but I was just wondering if anybody had any ideas? The freezing happens randomly. Sometimes I can watch videos for half an hour and it will freeze; other times only a couple of minutes. Sometimes I get away with it not freezing at all!

Any advice would be very helpful. Thank you!

Have you run windows update and ensured that all updates including optional ones are installed?
What media are you playing in Windows Media Player, VLC etc? Perhaps it's a particular codec causing the issue and needs to be updated?
