My PC won't post

OK, so I received my PC a couple of weeks ago and it's been working great. But today, I turned it on and there was a fizz noise from the power cable. Now, the lights on the PC turn on and the fans work, but when I turn my monitor on, it says there is no signal detected. I would really appreciate any help.

@Player 1 what are the specs of your PC? Can you post them here from your order page (there's a post to forum button).

Fizz noise from the power cable - how did you determine it was from the power cable? A fizz noise from anywhere in the PC isn't exactly great news right enough. But its unusual for the lights to still be on in the PC and fans to still spin etc. if there's a PSU fault.

I assume you get no display at all during boot up (no bios type screens or anything like that)?

Was the fizz noise from the cable or the PSU?

Switch off, remove the mains cable and using a torch look for any black sooty deposits or signs of arcing in the cable plug and in the PC socket.

Ensure that the mains cable is pressed fully home in the power socket.

Also be sure to use a surge protector between the wall socket and the PC and if that's an extension socket be sure not to overload it.

Thanks a lot, turned it off, unplugged it, plugged it in and turned it on again. Worked like a treat! I will buy a surge protector as it seems that that would help.
