New 17" laptops

Those I put was the first keyboard I googled for by looking for Vyper 17. So the same chassis of Vyper is Ionico. Yours 2021 refresh should be the Elimina Pro I believe.

Yes I believe that’s right.

Some people in this forum had cases in the past generation of unreliable battery operations which PCS said couldn't be fixed, and some keyboard engravings not very durable.
I am saying this as a guy which pre-ordered a Tongfang myself, as I want to check if new generation got bumped in reliability vs what other people "suffered". Also because in any other community I've seen around the world, Tongfang has been pretty well received, so.. they can't be all that bad.
It's not the last generation only, it's all of them since they were introduced as an option to PCS.

We've had various issues repeating on TongFang chassis compare to the other options:

Failed GPU's
Keyboard keys rubbing off (happens on all of them as they're low quality printed keys)
Keyboards failing
Screen failures
General chassis deterioration.
Substandard batteries leading to unusability on battery alone as would crash.

It's not just on the last model, it's all of them over the last 4 or so years.

So, would you say to avoid the Ionico?
What laptop would you go for?

I'm c..p at things like this - lol.

I would say the keys themselves are a clearish plastic so you can see the LED lighting, but then they have some form of black with white lettering smooth coating to them - presumably printed. The plastic of the key itself is very sturdy and the keys themselves depress / release very cleanly and typing is easy - its just this coating that is the main issue.

I was tempted to just buy some keyboard stickers, but its a brand new laptop so its going back for a new keyboard to see what happens next.

No, that wasn't crap at all! I got you totally. Thank you for the response.

Preference would be for Elimina (not Pro) or Defiance, as they're from Clevo instead and usually more reliable.

I'll take a look at those and spec it up. I'll see if I can spec it up the same as the Ionico that I have in my saved list.

Thank you for that.

The QHD screens are only available at the moment on TongFang chassis.

Personally, if you can wait I would hold on to see what the early reviews are like regarding quality of build/keyboard etc.

As waiting might bring you closer to seeing potential AMD CPUs / 3000 series GPU / QHD laptops being offered too to give you a wider choice.

You never know after some of the current chassis stock goes, QHD might start to become available on Clevo laptops.

With stock issues, chip shortage issues, prices etc at the moment waiting is a good option if you can.

Doubt. AFAIK Ionico is the only one offered by PCS with QHD and Max-P graphics card.
Yeah, you would probably need to go for a 3070 max-Q within the same price range... the main advantage of this is going to be the more controlled temperatures and even though the impact on FPS is going to be there, I don't think it's going to be huge.

For prolonged gaming sessions, might be even better to have a lower-wattage card that keeps temps under control than a card that has more performance during shorter periods, but cannot sustain the clocks for long due to cooling issues.

As soon as I get my Ionico I'll give you plenty of information if you can wait.
Sadly it's not yet been delivered to PCS (got an email of lack of part yesterday and today by PCS) despite were expected the 15th. So you might wait a lil' more (As I do).

My hope is that with the customized and improved Control Center of the new Tongfangs 2021 (which I do hope Ionico will get) you should be able to underboost your GPU at will, so thermals should be a problem. You can set it as like as it is Max-Q if you want less temperatures ad noise:

Same for CPU PL1, PL2, PL4 and even undervolting, it seems.

I'll let you know. Hope to grab mine in March, at this point (thank you COVID+Chinese New Year + Brexit + expected FedEx delays, lol).

Forgot to thank the BitCoin Miners: :ROFLMAO:

True :ROFLMAO:

I do hope the package with all the Ionicos is already in UK in some customs.

Otherwise I wouldn't be much surprised if they got stolen by the chinese miners at this point. Wish we got the delivery tracking for those shipments to PCS..

Yes please, that would be awesome and most helpful. When do you think you'll receive it?

Can you post (or PM me) your specs please? I'd like to see how it matches up to my Ionico 17.3" that I have saved. I'm aware Ionico has issues as shown in this thread but my heart is set on it. I like the way it looks, I like the spec and I like the price as well. I specced up a defiance and while not being the exact same (screen is different) it works out a few hundred point more which absolutely is out of budget. I've already stretched my £1500 budget to £1800 and I can't really afford to go much over that!

Pardon the stupid question, but what is Max-Q? I haven't PC gamed since the early 2000's so I'm way, way out of touch.

Please don't confuse those of us who say they have concerns around Tong Fang and the Ionico. As far as we are all aware the Ionico is a perfect laptop with no issues at all. No one knows because nobody has been able to test one yet. We are all just raising concerns which came to light through the last generation of Tong Fang chassis.

Thank you bud, still concerning though!
I'm literally on the edge of pulling the trigger on the 17.3" Ionico that I have saved but I don't want a lemon :ROFLMAO:. Granted nobody can really say if I'll get a lemon or not.

I am happy to wait a bit though so I think I'll wait until @Macco26 gets his or I get to the point where I become an impulsive buyer and buy it anyway :ROFLMAO:.

This is the thread where I detailed the spec I put into:
LINK
It was the 27th Jan.
I opted for RTX3070 so might end up costlier than your budget. Still consider in US those thigs go as high as 2400+taxes USD (same chassis) so PCS still worthy.

You can wait me to get it if you are not in a hurry, but consider they (PCS) still haven't received a single one despte they should have come by 15th. I do hope they are just blocked at UK customs but it could be needed more. Then, after assembly and testing, they shall deliver it to me in Italy. Brexit allowing it shall require another week or so. That's why I'm thinking early March as a possible date when I can get it...

EDIT: in this moment PCS website gives estimate arrival to THEM the 3rd of March. I wonder if this is a second delivery or we might all wait till then. Ouch

My specs are near enough identical to yours buddy, on the face of it, the only difference seems to be SSD's, where you have one Samsung and I'm going for 1 Intel. So definitely interested to see and hear how you get on.

Yes, I just saw the same, originally it was due 15th Feb but now changed to 3rd March. Either way I'll have to wait for the Ionico to come into stock to PCS before they can get it to me!

My link to reconfigure is here: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/ionico-17/jgzjmm6mrJ/

I checked your configuration.
What are your needs for 32GB RAM? Anything besides professional grade Video editing or CAD/rendering should be fine with 16 GB.
On the other hand the Intel SSD isn't that great. I'd invest there to upgrade to a speedier Samsung EVO.
Should you have a Windows 7/10 licenced PC, you can transfer that license to your PCS laptop. They send you one with a Trial version which you can activate if you login with the same MS account and choose to transfer it. Or can buy a serial somewhere for less than PCS prices.
I opted for 30 days dead pixel warranty, as I'd not be happy with a dead pixel once arrived. Rarely they broke mid life. Early on should be enough to warrant.
Someone told us that PCS sometimes messes up with the paste application. Also my Ionico went with MX-4, but this means we are confident PCS is able to apply the better paste in a way better than than Tongfang applied its normal paste in the fab. We do hope PCS knows their job. But there exists cases they made a worse operation.
