New build advice or opinion

I’ve done bits of research to get a build together. Prior to this, I haven’t built a PC in over 10 years (since Battlefield 3) and I consider myself a novice. I’m wondering if the build is decent enough to last at least 2-3 years without the need of an upgrade and for gaming at a res of 1080 or 1440 with a decent frame rate (60 and up). If not, what can I do to improve it. Thanks in advance.

Case: Lian Li Lancool II
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X Eight Core
Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX X570-F Gaming
RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3200MHz
GPU: 12GB AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT
1st Storage: 500GB Samsung 870 Evo 2.5” SSD (Boot)
1st M.2 SSD: 1TB Corsair MP400 NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD
2nd M.2 SSD: None
PSU: Corsair 850W RMx Series Modular 80 Plus
CPU Cooling: CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Black Edition
Wifi: ASUS PCE-AC88 AC3100
OS: Windows 10 Home

I have left the second M.2 slot free due to budget, but will probably buy another to upgrade at a later date.

Heya! Looks like a pretty solid start to me, although there's a couple of things we could change.

Would you be able to post the full build following this format, including the link? Then a couple of other questions. What's your budget? What will you be doing with the PC? and What monitor will you be using with it (either make and model or resolution and refresh rate)? 1440p is rather more demanding that 1080p so knowing the monitor is vital for getting the right GPU!

The PC will be for Gaming mainly. No broadcasting or anything. My budget was originally around £2000 (not including monitor as I would purchase separate) but there’s leeway as I’d be going for a finance payment option. Monitors I’ve been looking at have been either 1080 or 1440, but all have a refresh rate of 144Hz.

The build was modifed slightly from my first post due to the site saying it doesn’t recommend installing the OS on the Sata SSD over the M.2, any specific reasoning for this? Also the PSU was apparently too large so I added a smaller one which is still more than I need, but I may still go for a 850W anyway since I’m not sure how much the monitor will change that.

Brilliant, thanks for the info! As some sort of guidance on monitors, I'd 100% recommend 1440p over 1080, it's a completly different ball game. Our current recommendation is the Gigabyte M27Q. it's a fantastic value IPS 1440p 144hz monitor which will go nicely with the GPU selection.

Speed, NVME SSD's are considerably faster than SATA SSD's for about the same price. It'll help the whole build feel a whole lot faster. PSU wise, you'd totally get away with 750W with this build. but adding extra wattage will allow for better efficency and future upgradability and a move I'd 100% recommend. The monitor doesn't draw power from the PSU so that needn't be a worry.

Any questions, ask away!

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X Eight Core CPU (3.8GHz-4.7GHz/36MB CACHE/AM4)
Motherboard
ASUS® STRIX B550-F GAMING (DDR4, USB 3.2, 6Gb/s) - ARGB Ready! The STRIX B550 is really a great motherboard and will be all you'll need for the 5800X
Memory (RAM)
16GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3200MHz (2 x 8GB) For gaming, in the vast majority of instances 16GB will be ample. AMD also loves fast RAM so a 3200mhz it is ideal
Graphics Card
8GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3070 - HDMI, DP, LHR The 3070 sits just above the 6700XT in performance, has better technologies and is £100 cheaper!
1st M.2 SSD Drive
500GB SAMSUNG 980 PRO M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 6900MB/R, 5000MB/W) Even faster boot SSD
1st M.2 SSD Drive
1TB INTEL® 670p M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 3500MB/sR | 2500MB/sW) secondary SSD with better write endurance meaning it'll last longer
Power Supply
CORSAIR 850W RMx SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET Higher quality and higher wattage PSU for better efficency and upgradability. Might even be worth considering a 1000W given how power hungry GPU's are expected to get
Power Cable
1 x 1 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead)
Processor Cooling
Corsair H100i ELITE CAPELLIX RGB Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler the 5800X is a pretty warm CPU so I'd recommend a 240mm AIO, this Capellix unit is a great choice
