New Build - Suggestions?

Hi all!

I'm looking at getting a new PC. However, I honestly don't know where to start. Currently I run Windows Vista (Sorry!) with 1GB ram and 500GB HDD and struggle to watch Twitch and forever getting warned Windows is low on memory consider closing some programs! 1GB don't play well with dual displays.

My budget is £2,000 GBP max £2,500 GBP (no peripherals needed). I've always been Intel but will consider AMD.

Tasks:
Gaming (COD, RDR2, GTA ect)
Video Editing
Live Streaming (Twitch/YouTube)
NAS (only for backing up the system)
Web programming
Currently have 2x 1080p monitors but will ideally want to be able to use 2x 1440p (or 3x if it's possible in this budget?)
I already own Windows 10 Pro CD (got it Black Friday sale)

I own a NZXT H440 New Edition Matte Black/Red Case with Side Window case which i got 30/04/2016 - that's how long I've put upgrading off for! Ha.

Case is out-dated so happy for a newer case, always liked looped systems but think that'd blow my budget quickly.

Thanks a lot.

Happy Holidays!

I have to ask - it's not just the CD you have but the licence key too right? :) As anyone can get a Windows 10 CD for free

I fear it will, indeed. Though a CLC for the CPU will likely be appropriate for this budget range.

Do you need monitors within this budget?

When you say 2-3 1440p monitors, you're only intending to game on 1 at a time, right?

Yeah, I've the Key with it as well was a Black Friday offer £99 with £20 cashback @ Very the catalogue.

Nope this is just the tower only, the 2/3 monitors I'll buy later on and use the 1080p ones i have now and likely get the 1440p monitors 2-3 months after the PC.

I only plan to game on the one single display, yes. others will be used for like having Discord open and Twitch dashboard on the other :)

What sort of budget will there be for the monitors? Asking as no point trying to squeeze in an uber GPU if you're only gaming on a £200 monitor :) For instance

I'd say around £500-£800 each monitor.

I use the ASUS PG279QZ at work, probably isn't the best but it's what they had before i started there lol.

Just to add: I also have a 500GB brand new Samsung SSD i totally forgot about which i got the same time as Windows 10 BF but from Amazon. Although I'll be wanting to install Windows onto a M2 drive and SSD likely for programs? With a 1-2TB HDD (WD) for Games ect.

R9 3950X will smash video editing and streaming tasks you're likely to throw it at, and is extremely capable in gaming.
A little over the £2500, but you can subsidise with the monitor budget as you wouldn't need £1600 for a pair of appropriate monitors. No point buying 2 identical monitors for gaming as a 2ndary monitor doesn't need high refresh rate and gsync etc.

If you're aiming for 1440p resolution an RTX 2080 Super rather than 2080 ti would be more than fine and save you a bundle. For 1440p ultrawide either is a fine option - for 4k and with this budget, 2080 ti would be recommended.

You won't ideally want to run games off an HDD, for the loading times if nothing else, so I put in a 1TB SSD.

@Oussebon Thanks a lot for the suggestion! Seem it's slightly cheaper now as well.

Monitor wise do you've any you recommend? I'll likely want 3x 1440p. However, like you said may be best to get one good monitor and 2 lower ends although i do prefer them all to match and go together but they can be swapped out later down the line.

If you wouldn't mind could you also suggest some good 1080p monitors? As I might buy 2x/3x 1080p for now and get 1440p later down the line when i've more of a budget and when the prices drop slightly more (i use BENQ Zowie RL2455S for PS4)

Anyone else got any other suggestions before I buy?

Edit: oh it seems there no storage on the url config page maybe that's why its cheaper now

The minimum spec of monitor you should be considering for this build is 1440p 144hz. One of those and 2 others of whatever kind.

Prices for 1440p monitors are already relatively low and there are a lot of options.

What is your budget for the 3 monitors?

Edit: oh it seems there no storage on the url config page maybe that's why its cheaper now
Yes, PCS aren't doing the 1TB SX6000 right now so that's why it's not in the URL. The 1TB Intel 660p would be the same sort of thing.

Yeah, I'd definitely get 1440p at some point, either this year or next year. I was just considering 1080p ones for now so I'll have a better budget for a higher "better" 1440p monitor later - as the 1080p ones will be kept anyway and used for future projects/cctv.

if i get the PC now it'd probably be £300 for single 1440p monitor, if it's say in 5 months time i'd happily be able to budget £500+. I console stream so will likely need to add a capture card into the PC. Although i do plan on doing PC gaming as well (single display).

Also: is there a page on PCS where i can see all the cases fully instead of the mini boxes and having to click each one to see more details? Like scan, ebuyer etc list things ((plus which cases are compatible).

3950x is unnecessary 3900x is plenty for your described needs the x570 is lowend budget bump it up
The first part, maybe. The second part: no. Just no. It's neither budget, nor does the OP benefit from a more expensive one. The X570 PLUS is a very strong performer for thermals too.

You should arguably drop the GPU down to an RTX 2060 Super, and use the savings for the monitors. A 2080 ti is already arguably excessive for 1440p gaming - and gaming at 1080p on one is just wasting the GPU. And if you wait half a year before buying a 1440p monitor it will likely have been superseded by a newer gen anyway.

pretty much all the youtube reviews of the board consider it the low end budget of the socket non-wifi on pcs

So, it's X570. It's by definition not budget, but high end and expensive, it's just less expensive than most of the other X570 ones. Retail price is £170+.

It has a very solid feature set, and the VRM thermals are excellent:

So:
It's already very expensive
It's got a lot of features
It has good VRM temps
..not much more you can really ask of a motherboard
The OP hasn't stated a need for any features it doesn't have

There's is 0 reason to recommend a more expensive board except "IT'S MORE EXPENSIVE IT MUST BE BETTER"

Telling people to buy something that;'s more expensive that they don't need and don't benefit from isn't usually very helpful! Is there some specific reasoning for why the Op should buy a more expensive motherboard other than youtubers are able to read a price tag and confirm it costs sub £200 instead of about £300?

I would just swap the 3950X out for the 3900X and save 280 quid and get 32GB ram with that saving

AMD Ryzen 9 3950X vs AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
Userbenchmark, cpubenchmark, any of those comparison sites are utter garbage and give no relevance to real world results, they should be avoided at all costs.

Even for Userbenchmark, judging the 3900x 1% better than the 3950x is just bizarre. The 3950x is an absolute monster of a cpu and gives worthwhile performance increase over the 3900x to justify it's price, and that's coming from someone who build a PC with it in the last month.

You need to base guidance on proven results, not just by finding what you want people to see.

So far all of your advice on this forum has been utter nonsense and misleading.

3950x just seems unnecessary for tasks op needs 3900x sounds enough ddr 3600 cl16 is considered optimal zen2

never used userbenchmark or any compare sites just appeared on google i dont believe in them some do some dont

32gb RAM is excessive for the OP's uses :/ Moreso than the R9 3950x vs 3900x.

Let me get this straight. You are posting random things you found on google to try back up your statements but you've never used the source you're citing and you don't believe it either?!

But because it says an R9 3900x is faster than a 3950x (lol?) that makes it worth quoting?

I'm not saying it's wrong to go with the 3900x over the 3950x to save some money, it's a valid suggestion worth considering.

But when making suggestions ("That £170 X570 mobo is cheap, buy a more expensive one" "PC gaming needs 32gb RAM") etc) it helps if you back them up with a (good) source. Otherwise it comes off as "I like these shiny things, I think the OP should buy the shiny things because they're shiny" which isn't what you're going for.

i was simply sharing a comparison i found which i thought would be useful not so much i do not believe them but more so i have never used or tried one thought it might help being a comparison i had zero idea it useless and should be ignored

i did not mean no harm i saw from ops linustechtips thread always been told 32gb for gaming from pc speciallist sale emails for demanding programs and editing for renders tasks may be they just want more $

RAM all depends on the level of video editing (as does the CPU). My gut tells me the 3700X would be plenty in this case as if the uses don't warrant 32GB of RAM then they are unlikely to require more than an 8c/16t chip.

A 3 monitor setup suggests a level of professionalism, if it's programming then the high end chip/ram aren't likely to be of much cop. If it's high end video editing or photo editing then it's likely worthwhile.

Not sure how often the OP checks the thread though, going by the timeline, so may take a while to find out exact uses, in regards to profession.

At the moment I'm leaning towards 3700X, 16GB of RAM and a 2080 Super..... pocketing the rest for the monitors. That would smash all 1440p gaming requirements along with streaming/twitch etc and be more than enough for most video editing.
