Pretty much just for gaming (the Mrs only ever browses web sites for new pets). Thx for tip, don't even normally look at warranties!

I wouldn't bother with overclocking the CPU if it is mainly for gaming, you could also save money by choosing the z87-a motherboard and 8gb ram without any loss in performance gaming wise

Thx. Only reason I plumbed for the mobo I've spec'd is the "thermal armour" heat dissipation quality. The unit will be going into quite a confined space so was going for optimum cooling (hence good cooling case too). Is the z87 the maximus hero IV? Had a look at that too but went for the best cooling option....think that was wrong thing to do? I'm fortunate (not bragging) that money isn't too much of an issue

The thermal armour is something that I don't think will provide a noticeable improvement temperature wise. Putting a high end overclocked system in a confined space is likely to bring issues with heating regardless of the motherboard you choose. I think it is whether or not you get value for money and fully utilised all the features you are paying for.
