New Gaming Keyboard and Mouse wanted

I've come to the conclusion that I might buy a new keyboard and mouse at some point for gaming and general use.

I wouldn't mind trying FPS games using the keyboard and mouse. But I'm unsure which make and models are the best for 'PC Gaming' beginners?

Also, what DPI mean on a mouse?

A backlit keyboard would be great :)

Budget of £100 for both items please, if you can.

£100 each or £100 in total? ;)

DPI is Dots per Inch - basically how much 'ground' the mouse can cover in each inch. Obviously the higher it is the more twitchy the game will be. I generally use mine between 1500-2000dpi although my mouse can go up to the 8000's. I can definitely recommend the Corsair M65 though, solid mouse with a few nice features, well built and a great performer.

As for the keyboard, for the best gaming performance you'd be better off with Mechanical board. It basically means that instead of the keys being standard rubber domes (if you've ever lost a laptop key cover you'll know what I mean, those little rubber stubby things) you'll have proper mechanical switches for each key. This normally gives much better feedback and performance over a standard board where you tend to be paying for the little flashy features rather than the quality of the board.

So do you want performance or features? Do you have a big desk or do you need a compact board?

You could get something like this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CH-...385370380&sr=1-4&keywords=mechanical+keyboard

or if you prefer looks over performance:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Razer-Death...85370453&sr=1-17&keywords=mechanical+keyboard

Obviously there's a lot more than this but without having more info I'll be posting links all day :)

This is a link for the mouse if you're interested: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CH-...F8&qid=1385370518&sr=1-1&keywords=corsair+m65

Thanks for the links.

I have a compact desk big enough to fit a standard keyboard and mouse on the shelf.

I was looking at Corsair, Logitech and Mad Catz for the keyboard.
