New Gaming Laptop - AMD 5900 & RTX 3070

Hi all,

Your feedback is very much appreciated!

A couple of things I'd be really keen to know:
Is there any way of tuning this up or stripping off unnecessary parts?
I'm not sure what the deal is now with having two SSDs with the new line of processors and GFX cards, is this still a necessity?
What are peoples thoughts on the Ionico vs the Recoil?

Many thanks!

That will be an absolute beast of a machine, but having a second ssd, that is only 128gb doesn’t make much sense - it’s also not a great ssd

Thanks for the feedback Ash_

Any idea on whether a second SSD is needed, and if so, what you would suggest?

It depends on how much storage you use. 1TB could be enough. The pcs drives are supposed to be decent enough, but Samsung 970’s are fantastic ssd’s and if the price difference isn’t too much, that is the way i’d go

recoil is lot thicker, has mechanical keyboard, aluminium and has bigger battery.

Not sure what chassis Recoil is.
Ionico is TongFang.

I wonder why Ionico 15inch has such small battery compared to other 15inch.

Purely gaming? or other uses?

What is your actual budget?

Can you post the link to the spec as per the instructions here: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/foru...ification-to-the-forum-check-this-spec.73718/

It makes it easier for us to amend with suggestions.
Posted as instructed :)

It's currently hovering around the 1.7k range, I'd preferably want to keep it under 2k

Predominantly it will be used for gaming, but I have used my prior game spec laptop for editing on photoshop etc.

Thanks Kshina, good to know!

I guess the problem here is modern games tend to be fairly chunky. I think my current HD on my gaming laptop is 1TB and is running low. I'll have a look based on your advice.

Thanks again.

Can you copy the final line of the "post spec to forum" which has the URL for people to use.

OK - actually not a bad selection but have to say for the extra £60, I would consider this with the Samsung 970 in there for the OS/program files and then your games on the 1TB:

Thanks BHUNA50. Just wondering if you know whether it is essential to have a second HD for windows etc now-a-days? I know previously two SSDs were needed, I'm just unsure if the new processors / GFX cards have made that an outdated trend?

Its personal preference really and depends how you want to organise yourself and what you use the machine for as to whether there will be noticeable differences waiting for the machine to write / read the data.

Most advice is to have the faster separate SSD to have the OS on as Windows and also programs on and then save your data / games / etc on the second drive because then if you have to reinstall the OS, you don't lose your data / games.
