New Gaming/Work laptop Defiance V RTX

Would be fun to see what other buyers think about my choices. I wanted a gaming laptop that would last a wile, and also be able to run Visual Studio and Hyper-V virtual machines. With a budget of about 2000 EUR, I chose the Defiance V RTX, but downgraded the CPU, since in all tests I've read there is practically no difference in performance. Then I chose Windows 10 Pro and 32 GB RAM for Hyper-V compliance. I left the 2.5" bay empty and got a reasonably fast 512GB M.2 drive too boot from. And finally a GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q. Opinions?

The 2070 Max-Q is barely any better than the 2060 - you might as well stick to that and save a load of cash.

Not in the tests I've read. There is usually about 20-30% difference, but it's too late now anyway (I think). Not that I care about 30% extra performance too much, but it's a question of longevity of the system. Three years down the road it may matter.

Edit: Oh, and I remember that you either had to downgrade the CPU and stick with 2070+ or the other way around, according to the configurator. That is why I chose the better GPU as more value for the money.

2070 Max-Q would more usually be about 5% faster overall. Perhaps you're thinking of the 2070 non max Q version?

Very true. At least Nvidia haven't released any 'Super' GPUs for laptops (yet).

Because then we will have in laptops: RTX 2060 Max-Q, RTX 2060, RTX 2060 Super, RTX 2070 Max-Q, RTX 2070, RTX 2070 Super and then presumably RTX 2060 Super Max-Q and RTX 2070 Super Max Q.

He he. But now I question my choice of not going for the bulkier Octane VI RTX in the first place, but then again the end price would be higher... What to think? Guess I will have to sleep on it. :(

The Octane is bulky, and is more a portable workstation than a laptop. It's a great system but you really need to need the CPU horsepower to justify the expense. Otherwise a regular laptop will do.

There's always the Recoil chassis with its 'full' laptop RTX 2070 (i.e. it's not the max-Q). More expensive than the Defiance but a lot cheaper than the Octane and probably within 2000€.
