New laptop cannot find/connect to wifi

Similar to a recent thread - linked below.

Brand new laptop cannot find any wireless networks. Wired connection works fine. If the laptop is right next to the router it will recognise an extremely weak signal but will not connect.

I have gone through this thread and have taken all the software/driver advice mentioned.

How likely is it that it is the same issue? As surely a disconnected WiFi card would not be able to detect a network at all, rather than weakly as I can.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

specs to follow - look almost identical to those found in the other thread.

It's quite possibly the same issue, the symptoms fit, worth checking the antenna are connected to the wifi card.

If it is the case you really need to report it to PCS as this shouldn't be making it past quality checks.

If you get some sort of a signal next to the router then it's hard to imagine what else it could be other than disconnected antennas.

Happy to run with this working hypotheisis for now - does anyone have a guide to opening up this chassis so I can confirm it or not?

Got her open.

This looks exactly as described. Can I get confirmation that I am correct before I give this a go?

Hmmm, this is really bad. The antenna's definitely aren't connected, those two tiny nodules are where the antenna connect to.

I'm guessing the black and grey cables are the antenna cables. They go a particular way around, so try them one way, don't put the lid back on but make sure it's safely on a wooden table or something that isn't going to cause a short, then try booting and see if you can get a wifi network.

If that doesn't work, then just swap the antenna around.

I'm really sorry this has been the case for you. Whilst it's an easy fix, it beggars belief how this passes QC.

With your permission, I'd like to point this thread to the site Admins to pass onto the staff as this is unacceptable.

The WiFi card itself had directions on which way round the wires went, so I’ve attached them (a very fiddly and annoying task) and now everything is working as expected.

Please take whatever action you feel appropriate. I will be writing an email tomorrow. Unfortunately this is a real annoyance and not something I’d expect from PCS, who have been absolutely brilliant in the past.

Thanks all.

This is unusual, and that's why I think it's really important to highlight it to them to prevent it happening in the future.

I'm really pleased you've got it sorted though!
