Edit - After longer thinking i've decided on the skyfire II with the following specs (i'll keep the old optimus specs so older posts still make sense but they'll be smaller)

Chassis & Display
SkyFire:17.3" Matte Full HD LED Widescreen (1920x1080)
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-3610QM (2.30GHz) 6MB
Memory (RAM)
8GB SAMSUNG 1333MHz SODIMM DDR3 MEMORY (2 x 4GB)
Graphics Card
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 675M - 2.0GB DDR5 Video RAM - DirectX® 11
Memory - Hard Disk
250GB SERIAL ATA II 2.5" HARD DRIVE WITH 8MB CACHE (5,400rpm)
DVD/BLU-RAY Drive
8x SATA DVD±R/RW/Dual Layer (+ 24x CD-RW)
Memory Card Reader
Integrated 4 in 1 Card Reader (SDXC/MMC/MS/XD)
Thermal Paste
ARCTIC MX-4 EXTREME THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY COMPOUND (£9)
Sound Card
Intel 2 Channel High Definition Audio + MIC/Headphone Jack
Bluetooth & Wireless
GIGABIT LAN & WIRELESS INTEL® ULTIMATE-N 6300 (450Mbps)
cost 1057

I've thought about this longer now and the better graphics card makes sense, I've got a samsung 830 ssd to put in as the boot drive and will be installing a backlit keyboard (from a valid msi supplier since the skyfire II is based on a barebones MSI gt70), a bigger HDD and 8GB more ram. There is a reason for the intel 6300 wireless since all other wifi cards are not compatible with connectify, which I use for connecting my phone and consoles to the house internet.

The only thing I would like help with is: is it worth it getting a bluray player and also matte or glossy screens?
I will be buying this next week (if my wages are paid) so I would appreciate anyone's opinion

Hi, I am planning on buying an Optimus III 17 Inch next month and was wondering if current Optimus owners could give me feedback on this specs
Chassis & Display
Optimus Series: 17.3" Glossy Full HD LED Widescreen (1920x1080)
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-3610QM (2.30GHz) 6MB
Memory (RAM)
8GB SAMSUNG 1600MHz SODIMM DDR3 MEMORY (2 x 4GB)
Graphics Card
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 650M - 1.0GB DDR5 Video RAM - DirectX® 11
Memory - Hard Disk
750GB WD SCORPIO BLACK WD7500BPKT, SATA 3 Gb/s, 16MB CACHE (7200 rpm)
DVD/BLU-RAY Drive
8x SATA DVD±R/RW/Dual Layer (+ 24x CD-RW)
Memory Card Reader
Internal 9 in 1 Card Reader (MMC/RSMMC/SD: Mini, XC & HC/MS: Pro & Duo)
Thermal Paste
ARCTIC MX-4 EXTREME THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY COMPOUND (£9)
Sound Card
Intel 2 Channel High Definition Audio + MIC/Headphone Jack
Bluetooth & Wireless
GIGABIT LAN & WIRELESS INTEL® N135 802.11N (150Mbps) + BLUETOOTH
USB Options
3 x USB 3.0 PORTS + 1 x USB 2.0 PORT AS STANDARD
Battery
Optimus/Voyager Series 6 Cell Lithium-ION Battery (48.84WH)
Power Lead & Adaptor
1 x UK Power Lead & 120W AC Adaptor
Operating System
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit w/SP1 - inc DVD & Licence
Laptop Cooling Stands
Zalman ZM-NC3000S Ultimate Cooler, 220mm fan, upto 17.3inch (£35)

Total £836

I will be installing an ssd myself to reduce prices + reduce build time (either a vertex 4 or a samsung 830) and that will be the boot drive with the 750GB as data drive

I believe its balanced - and I'm aware that I could shave 8 pound off by going with 1333mhz ram, but 8 pound isn't a lot of money so why not?

Hope someone can advise

awesome - since you have the same laptop can i ask you 2 things?

Does the cooler make a difference in the long run or is it just a small decrease in temps which you won't notice
and also does this come with a windows 7 disk if you got an OS? (so I don't need to get a disk clone software)
