Hi,

My name is John and i'm from the Netherlands. I'm now 48 years of age and i've been gaming since i am 12 years old when my brother and i received Pong from my parents. That was waaaaay back in 1978! (i feel old now)

After Pong i think i had every system there was (not in particular order); Mattel Aquarius, ZX Spectrum, C64, MSX, MSX2, MSX2+, MSX Turbo R, Philips P2000, etc. Then of course the PC, oh my i was such a happy kid back in those days. Our hardware was always nicely held up to date by dad cuz he was not a nerd like i was then but he kept up with it because i kept nagging... Spoiled brat!!! ;) Also doing chores, holiday jobs and whatnot i managed to play on every console i could get my hands on if my bank account (read parents) would let me. I still have a few consoles but i do not use them much. Such a hassle to play BF on a Xbox or any other game because the loading times, they annoy me to bits.

When i got older i had a lot of fun building my own systems from scratch and game on them. About 13 years ago i think, after i sold my last PC, i thought why not a beefy laptop. So i bought the Dell Inspiron 7400 with a 7900GTX in it. Oh the joy! I used several brands and then stuck to MSI and have been using MSI ever since until november last year when i bought a 17", 1070, 8750H Omen from HP. And i really really dont like it, So it is for sale ;) Soooo... Why not again MSI? Well because high-end is friggin expensive and you do not get what you get at PC Specialist for a lot less! I have done my research and since i live in the Netherlands it's not very attractive to import a high end laptop outside from outside of the EU. Our taxes are INSANE on importing things. Here in NL we also have PC Specialist (thank you!) and i checked the configurator and the pricing. Of course i also checked other built to order brands here in the EU that use the same barebone for the Octance VI like Clevo Germany, Schenker, Skikk, NovaCustom, BTO and XNB.

The differences in pricing from the other brands compared to PCS for almost the exact same laptop and its options were absoluteley SHOCKING! For example; XNB (XNotebooks) was €682,25 more EXPENSIVE than PC Specialist. And were talking about almost the exact same system! If i have the time (and if i'm allowed to) i will make a post somewhere with my findings because i went nerd and made an Excel sheet with all the prices in it for the PCS config i bought compared to the other mentioned brands...

What did i buy? 2 days ago i ordered a 17" Octane VI, 9900, RTX2070, 16GB 2666, 500GB SSD, 1TB HDD, etc. etc... And all that at a UNBEATABLE price! I need to wait a few more days before it arrives, i can't wait!

Welcome to the forums!

Just to say, we're not allowed to comment on other companies' systems (for or against). So a spreadsheet doing price comparisons with other companies' products wouldn't be alright - even if it is very favourable to PCS :)

But yes, I've never understood the variations in pricing. It's not like the hardware's any different - a Clevo's a Clevo, a 9900k's a 9900k. PCS's customer support is very good (personal experience and Trustpilot) so they're not cutting corners there either.

Grats on the Octane, it's a beast of a system! If you get the time, please do post a review - pros and cons, as you find them of course

I think there's not enough reviews online (YouTube) of PCS and it's products. PCS really needs to push it more imho.
Ofcourse you can find several reviews (not that much tho and some are really old) of other Clevo barebone brands but
PCS could hype itself and it products a bit more ;)

PCS does try: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/reviews/

I don't really follow youtube so no idea what kind of profile they have (or don't have) there. Though the power of youtubers to persuade is awesome and terrifying... or at least the willingness of people watching youtube videos to be persuaded is :S
