New Monitor Recommendations?

Hi there, I’m brand new to the forums so please don’t pick on me and steal my lunch money!

My last desktop from Chillblast has died after 7 years faithful service so I’ve taken the plunge and treated myself to an order from PC Specialist. I’ve still got about £350 left in my budget to get a new monitor, old one is still alive and well but is 1080p and I think my new machine will deserve more... hoping people might have some recommendations for a decent 27 inch 1440p screen.

I mainly play single player (Witcher 3, GTA V, looking forward to Horizon Zero Dawn and Cyberpunk 2077!) and I also spend a worrying amount of time on Euro/American Truck Simulator. So response time and refresh probably aren’t as important to me as they are to some. Thanks for reading, looking forward to hearing back from you.

Until its built, you can amend your order. (Any price difference would either be refunded as a credit note, or charged via a sub order)
Once it goes into PreProduction the option will be available when you look at your orders.
I think all the changes suggested would also be available on the configurator for the chipset youve chosen.

The LG Ultragear 27GL83A-B 27 Inch Gaming Monitor QHD IPS was one of the ones recommended to me, it was on offer for just under £400, currently listed as £439 on Amazon
https://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-Ultrage...WeCP&pd_rd_wg=ndc1l&ref_=pd_gw_ci_mcx_mr_hp_d
One of several reviews I found, all seemed pretty good:
https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/27gl83a-b .

That looks pretty tasty too!

Right, I have made an amendment to my order, I've upped the GPU to the RTX 2070 Super and I think I will sit on my money and save for a bit longer to get a decent monitor like the LG. I figure that I'm going to be staring at that screen for a long time, why scrimp on it?

The only other curveball I can throw into the equation is.... as a Euro Truck Simulator nerd, would an ultra-wide monitor be worth considering? I can imagine that with my Track IR and a wide screen, the immersion would be pretty epic. Any thoughts?

You would get lower frame rates on an ultrawide with a 2070 super (still over 60), really need a 2080 Super to maintain around 100fps. That being said though, so long as you had gsync or freesync, that’s not necessarily a bad thing as on my gsync 4k monitor I only get about 40fps but it’s still buttery smooth. I’d say for the gain in peripheral view it’s probably worth it, and there are some incredibly good value ultrawides on the market for around £350, plus it gives you room to grow into with future gpu upgrades.

Also, I make no apologies for all the RGB in my build. My previous Chillblast PC was one of their silent discreet builds, I was room sharing at the time. I’m now in the position where I can make as much noise as I want and I’m looking forward to my desk having the appearance of a 90s disco 😁

The AOC Ultrawide has been ordered, should be with me tomorrow!

Last email on Friday from PCS estimated build date for my new desktop as Tuesday 28th July, I should be getting another email tomorrow with an update. I'm praying it isn't pushed back but given the current global circumstances... I won't complain too much if it is.

Now the next question is.... what to do with my old PC? I've salvaged a couple of bits that may be of some use but the case and majority of the innards will have no future purpose. I'm really tempted to take it somewhere deserted and beat it to death like in that scene from Office Space :p

When did you order yours? Mine was pushed back to 3rd August :( Started with 31st July, then pushed forward to 28th July and now 3rd August. It is getting harder and harder by the day :D haha but I'm sure the wait is worth it.

My new UW monitor is coming today too, I'll be enjoying it with excel until that new pc comes.

I did it on Tuesday 7th so it is following the same pattern as yours.
I work for GSK so as you can imagine, it kept busy (not as busy as yours obviously) but also with the benefit of wfh. Professionally, I was very lucky.

Yes and it is a 38''! LG 38GL950G. I can't wait! I'll get to see all those columns! lol

Hi all!

Sorry to bump my own thread yet again but I'm wondering if I should tweak my build further and some advice would be appreciated. I opted for a 2TB Seagate SSD as my storage drive because I thought that no moving parts is always a good thing and I might see a small but welcome increase in loading times for my games. But as I don't really have much experience with SSDs for storage, can anyone comment on that?

Because if it's of no real improvement to the build and I drop it to a Barracuda 2TB HDD, I can upgrade my GPU to the RTX 2080 Super for only £19.

I think it's these long waiting times getting to me, I'm looking at my build every other day and debating my choices
Can’t blame you, I’m in the same situation (today changed motherboards, from a TUF B550 to a Rog Strix x570 and back to a TUF x570 :D).

however, I really think investing in a GPU like that at the moment is a bad deal considering the likely price reduction and new launches in September or so. The gpu is pretty much the only thing I haven’t changed in my build (going for a 1650 super for a couple of months). HDD to SDD is a massive massive difference and totally worth the investment.

Yep, that was my original reason for not going with the 2080 Super in the first place, thinking that the new cards will be unveiled soon.

And changing the build is not the only issue, also the amount of stuff I bought during this waiting period that I wasn't planning on buying yet like the monitor, pc speakers, a gaming keyboard.. but happy with all the purchases so far. The speakers will arrive today (Logitech G560).

Hiya, I placed my order on Saturday 4th July. How about you?

My first update email from them estimated a build date of Thursday 30th July, the next one estimated Friday 31st July, the third one estimated Tuesday 28th July.

This morning's email from them.... back to Friday 31st.

Booooooo!

Like I said, I won't complain too much. There's bigger things going on in the world, the girlfriend and I work for the NHS and things are pretty hectic for us right now.

My only real gripe is that I opted for a Sunday delivery (as that's the only day I'm currently guaranteed to have off work) and if it was built on the Tuesday 28th I'd have likely had it by next weekend. Ah well, what's another week?

I hope you enjoy those spreadsheets in all their 21:9 glory!

hey did you get an update? Mine has moved forward again to 30th July!

Sorry to hear that :(

I guess my next update (which is meant to be on build day, 30th) will bring back bad news :(
