New PC doesn't display

Hi all,

I just received delivery of my brand new PC today.
But it doesn't work. There's no display using either the 4070 HDMI port or the onboard integrated graphics HDMI.
When booting I get one long beep and three short beeps. Generally indicates a GPU error.
Then it's followed by a single beep and the system boots.

I tried unplugging the 4070 card. Still the same issue.
I tried unseating and reseating the RAM.

I know the system boots because I can hear the windows accessibility options screen reader dictate what would be on the screen and tell me to hit the key combination for more accessibility options.
I just get no display from the 4070 or integrated graphics.

The HDMI cable is fine because I tested it on my Steam deck and other pc.

I also tried clearing the CMOS on the mb.

Anyone got other ideas before I request a return and refund?

Any advice much appreciated.

May be worth checking the PCIe connectors to the GPU from the PSU are correctly plugged in at both ends. It's possible they've slipped loose if they weren't fully connected properly when it was built.

They're all connected. I completely unplugged and removed the card then booted with no 4070 card in and HDMI cable connected to the integrated mb graphics. Same problem.
I plugged the card back in, including power supply and rebooted. Same issue.

Not the card plugs, the PSU plugs.

Also, I take it you're trying an HDMI cable? Try a DP as well just in case.

I don't have a DP cable.
The HDMI cable works with my other pc and with my Steam deck.
The monitor works with my other pc and steam deck

The PSU cables are fixed and part of the supply. They're not removable or modular.

Just to reiterate - I still get the long beep and three short beeps when I have completely removed the GPU card and I'm using the integrated motherboard graphics and hdmi port.

There’s a known issue on some modern boards wheee if they don’t receive a return code from the monitor on boot, it will give a gpu error.

The fact you’re not getting display from igpu as well, but you are getting a successful post beep plus hearing windows sounds suggests it is booting which means it is giving a display, you’re just not seeing it.

Either the monitor channel, or an unsupported cable. Just because it works on another pc isn’t conclusive.

Actually this isn't fully sorted so maybe some extra advice if anyone can help?
The PC works via new 8K hdmi 2.1 cable to my 4K TV. Also works via normal HDMI cable to my 1080p TV. But still doesn't work via HDMI 2.1 or via DP cable to an Alienware aw2518H 1440p gaming monitor.
Every time this monitor is plugged into the pc through the RTX 4070 or via motherboard I get the long beep and three short beeps issue on its not detected.
The monitor works on both my other pc (RTX 3090) and my Steam deck.

This is really weird bought the new PC so my brother can play games on his Alienware gaming monitor. But right now he can only play on the old 1080p TV.

Are you using the cable that came with the monitor?

I don't have the original Alienware cable, but I did borrow a display port cable to run some tests.

I'll do a summary here to try and make things clear.
I have a new pc specialist system "4070pc"
I have an older pc "3090pc"

I have two 8K hdmi cables. "8KHDMI"
I have one older HDMI cable "HDMI"
I have one borrowed DP cable "DP"

One 4K TV "4KTV"
One 1080p TV "HDTV"
One 1440p Alienware gaming monitor "1440p"

Here's the combination summary:
3090pc + 8KHDMI + 4KTV = works
3090pc + HDMI + 4KTV = works
3090pc + 8KHDMI + HDTV = works
3090pc + HDMI + HDTV = works
3090pc + 8KHDMI + 1440p = works
3090pc + HDMI + 1440p = works
3090pc + HDMI + 1440p = works
3090pc + DP + 1440p = works

4070pc + 8KHDMI + 4KTV = works
4070pc + HDMI + 4KTV = works
4070pc + 8KHDMI + HDTV = works
4070pc + HDMI + HDTV = works
4070pc + 8KHDMI + 1440p = fail (GPU error beeps)
4070pc + HDMI + 1440p = fail (GPU error beeps)
4070pc + DP + 1440p = fail (GPU error

The DP cable also works on my friend's 166Hz gaming monitor with their RTX 3080 PC.
The 1440p monitor also works with my Steam deck using both HDMI cable types.
