New PC for Streaming/Games/Work

Hi everyone,

I'd really appreciate some feedback on this one. I'm going to be playing games and streaming them for the first time, but I will use the same PC for work where I use a lot of data (hence high storage). I've followed most of the basic advice on the forum surrounding use of AMD etc. but unsure if this all fits together.

I already have one monitor, keyboard mouse etc. so that's not a problem.

My existing monitor (which will be my second monitor) is a Dell SE2216H wiuth 1920x1080 res and a 59.940HZ refresh rate.

Software: I'll mostly be using Stata and Latex, for work. I'll be using Steam games, World of Warcraft, and streaming on Twitch.

Budget (including absolutely everything): up to £3,000

Thanks again for your help!

What software will you use?what monitor do you have - make and model or resolution and refresh rate? What is your budget?

This needs some work, so please provide the unique configuration link.

There was a warning about the power supply but I'm guessing that based on your expertise we should aim higher than required for that?

That's a really nice build, something like this would go with it nicely

The 8TB HDD's are terrible mate if you look at their speeds they are only 5400RPM which is deathly slow in this day and age.

The largest HDD I'd recommend is the 3TB one as it's still 7200RPM. The only other ones that fit this size are the Iron Wolfs which are server rack drives and very loud

Also there are better monitors out there you can buy instead of that one mate

Thanks for the advice! I'll stick with your original recs and the externally bought monitor.

Overclocking a CPU will void your warranty I believe. (EDIT Ignore my nonsense) It will also lessen performance on Ryzen CPU's, they can only be overclocked to their slowest core when other cores may be able to boost higher

Ryzen also boost themselves automatically essentially an automatic overclock so there's no need

You shouldn't have issues with temps in the recommended builds

Now overclocking a GPU is a different matter but you shouldn't have to do it

Overclocking cpu is allowed but as @Steveyg says it will actually reduce performance for most things because of the way ryzen cores work.

Overclocking gpu will void your warranty.

This will do you very nicely. Would recommend upping the motherboard to the x570 Strix as it pairs very nicely with the VRMs.
You can also drop the capture card. You'll be using either Streamlabs or OBS to encode your gameplay for Twitch, a capture card is only neccessary if you're using a second PC to encode, or you're streaming from another source such as a console. Twitch also caps out at 1080p so a 4k capture card is not neccessary.
So my recommendation from this is up the motherboard, ditch the capture card, and then enjoy your product when it arrives and send us lots of photos!

Hi again everyone!

The new PC has arrived and is looking great, but I've realised I forgot to add/specify it needed a wireless card. I'm upstairs so no ethernet connection, which is a bit of a pain as I was looking forward to using it, though it's not exactly urgent as I have my laptop.

Was just wondering what you guys think is the best option for me. Should I order and install a wireless card myself, or is something external just as good?

Thanks again!

Which motherboard did you end up with? There might be WiFi onboard

If not, you could order the AX200 from PC Specialists upgrade system then install yourself? That'd probably be the most cost effective route. The other option is something like powerlines- I've had good experiences with them but I know there are other people that haven't

Thanks for the advice.

The motherboard is the 'ASUS® ROG STRIX X570-F GAMING (USB 3.2 Gen 2, PCIe 4.0) - ARGB Ready!' - but if it has wifi, it hasn't turned on automatically.

Ahhh okay, hat motherboard doesn't have WiFi. Just saw a spec above with the TUF X570 WiFi which obviously does have WiFi so was wondering if you had made the change or not

AX200 or powerlines would be your best options I reckon
