New PC help..

Hey guys, looking to buy a new PC, it'll mainly be used for playing FPS games, I play on a 240hz monitor at 1080p and prefer the highest FPS possible over quality.

The last PC I bought I didn't really know what I was doing and ended up just getting the most expensive stuff at the time which left me buying a CPU which wasn't really a CPU for gaming, I don't want to make this mistake again so wondering if somebody could help me with a solid build that will be easily upgraded down the line.

Budget is probably around the £2k mark however could go more/less depending on what's good at the minute.

Thanks in advance.

Give this a read

Will take a look, would still appreciate some people to come up with some builds that match my requirements and post them here, would feel more confident in buying what somebody recommends rather than me doing it.

If you put one together and post it here we'll take a look and sort any problems

Ok that's a good start, could do with a few tweaks, could you please post the configuration link for it

Ok so I've tweaked it a bit and saved you money into the bargain, this will handle that 1080p fine, and would handle a 1440p ultrawide as well if you decided to upgrade your monitor.

So I've changed to the 3070Ti, rejigged the storage so you've got a 1TB HDD for general storage, a really fast M.2 (the 980) for your system drive, then a slightly slower, but still fast M.2 (670p) for your games drive

I like it! Do you think the 16GB RAM is more than enough? And would the 3080 be overkill for 1080p? Or would it still give me better performance than the 3070 TI, just thinking if i'm spending 2k may aswell spend an extra 200 for the better GPU? Or am I thinking wrong.

16 GB is fine unless you are playing games such as MSFS which will eat anything you throw at it.

The 3070 Ti will be fine and the 3080 would be overkill as it's primarily a card for 4K gaming, the only reson i didn't drop below the 3070Ti was due to your high refresh rate (not that most folk can notice any difference above 120Hz)

Hey guys, posted for advice on a new build couple weeks ago, the post didn't get much attention so just looking for some second opinions on a build before I purchase really, I play mostly FPS games at 1080p 240hz and prefer as high FPS as possible. Here is the build:

I have the money to spend so I don't mind spending extra for a 3080 but just wondering if it's actually going to make performance worse because it's overkill? Or would it still be a slight increase in performance regardless?

Many thanks,

I’ve merged this new post with your original thread so that we can chart the journey of the build 👍

The post clearly did get some attention. It’s okay to ask for a second opinion but the reason why you likely didn’t get more involvement is that @Martinr36 did you a really fine build and nobody had anything extra to add. He nailed it! 👏

Having said that… the 3080 is currently less than a hundred pounds more expensive than the 3070Ti. If you’ve got the expendable funds and really want it, now is the perfect time to order.

Perfect, sorry maybe I didn't word the post as well as I could of, I was very happy with the advice and buid that Martin provided but wanted to just get some other opinions as it's a lot of money. But it seems that the build is perfect. :)

Thank you very much.

So the 3080 will give better FPS and not going to hinder me in anyway? even at 1080p?

The 3080 will draw slightly more power, think the site I saw stated about 30W more at load than the 70 ti, but other than that shouldn't cause you any issues, and will future proof you if you decide to move up to 1440p. Fairly sure it will run 1440p at 144hz fine and you maybe able to get 240hz at 1440p but almost certainly not with ultra settings.

Debating maybe starting streaming in the near future, would this PC be any good for that or worth upgrading to the 5900X or something?
