Ok just received my new pc. When the pc start-up instead of a short beep, I one long beep then it starts up normally. A few times it has started up without the long beep and twice it has froze. Does anyone know what the issue is and how to resolve it.

Thanks

I am positive it is just one long beep lasting for 5 seconds, then the computer starts up normally. Just checked your link, I do not think it is a CMOS error since it loads fine after the beep most of the time.

You can find most POST beep codes here, one long does not appear to be a valid POST beep code for any BIOSs listed on there.

Since it's also frozen on start and it's a new PC I would check that all the RAM cards are properly seated. In fact, I'd check that everything is properly seated and that all connectors are fully home. It's not unusual for stuff to come loose in transit.

Ok good point, when I get home I will check to see if everything is connected properly. Thanks for the help.

Ok I have never built a computer before so I have litle idea of how everything is connected, but I did find out that my cpu was running very hot about 95 degrees celcius due to fan being connected to the wrong socket. Corrected that and now it runs at 25 degrees, but the long beep still persists. Even worse when I had a usb external hdd connected during a restart, the beep didn't stop and it kept beeping until I plugged the external hdd out (30 seconds). So I am at a complete since it still does the normal 5 sec beep when I start it.
