Just making the build now, it say I only need a 650 power supply instead of the 850 you’ve recommended?

then with the same design do I need to add extra case fans to tur build or is that why the processor cooler is expensive? And then I know the case already has 2 Fans, so should I add 3 more?

why not go for 7.1 sound cards instead of 5.1 as my headphones support 7.1?
Over-speccing your power supply leads to quieter and more efficient performance. It also gives room for an upgrade in the future to a more power-hungry graphics card.

You don't need to add fans to the build, but you could add the three LL120 fans and copy @rouchie's gorgeous build seen in this thread:

I doubt 7.1 surround headsets are much more than a gimmick in all honest, though I admit I'm not quite sure how they work. What does your headset plug into?

Head phones have their own drivers and speakers. They will handle the 7.1 themselves you don't need a soundcard for that. I've a 7.1 headset and that has small individual speakers and uses the software to handle the sound.

Shouldn't need extra fans with the builds recommended

Also the power supply of 850W is for projected use in future. You want minimum 20% overhead but GPU's have been climbing drastically in their power consumption like the 3070 requiring 750W and the 3080 requiring more. The larger PSU is to look into the future

There are "true 7.1" headsets like the Razer Tiamat 7.1 that require a 7.1 soundcard (they plug into the surround system on the soundcard/motherboard with four or more 3.5mm jacks). I'm still, shall we say, sceptical of whether this is worthwhile, but if you have the headphones that need that it would be a shame not to make the most of them.

Just looking at the build now final things I'm just considering going from the 3070i to the 3080 graphics card, is their any major difference, obs the price is different but just trying to future proof the design? only problem is with the 3080 is it a pre order any clue how long?

no mine are from the steel series so I wont require the sound card, after what you've said, as if its not required than theirs no point

You can't future proof with graphics cards. In three to four years time games will have moved on so much that you would need to upgrade anyway: that's a much cheaper and more efficient route to take. I'd stick with the 3070 Ti or probably even the 3070, given the little difference between them.

The 3080 is also a much longer wait, on the order of months, whereas the 3070s are much quicker.

Yeah you can't future proof a GPU mate, it's the part that gets changed the most. The idea is to pair it to your monitor as opposed to trying to pay more for longer lasting.

The 3070 would suit you perfect, I'd actually recommend it over the 3070Ti due to the price difference. If the 3070Ti is more than £50 more expensive then it's not worth it they are too close with regards to performance

Too kind mate, but your comments are very much appreciated, I love my little beastie and if anyone one admires it is full credit to the advice I got on these forums!

Last question regarding the casing which is better the Corsair 5000x icue or Corsair 5000D airflow?
They're fundamentally the same case, with very slight differences:
  • The 5000D Airflow has one front fan, non-RGB, with a mesh front.
  • The 5000X iCue has three front RGB fans and a glass front.
They're both great cases. Personally I'd want more than one front fan. I really like the option I linked above (which is also the approach I took with mine) which is to have an airflow case and add the RGB fans, but any of the options are actually just fine and it's as much down to aesthetics as actual differences between them.

What fans did you put in? To replace the non RGB? Looking at buying from pc specialist, so any of theirs? Or did Install them on your own after buying?

I bought my own, the SP120 Elites, and fitted them myself. You could buy the LL120s from PCS, but the configurator won't let you add them, so you'd have to place the order then call up/message online and ask if you can add them.
