Noob looking at getting a Gaming PC

Hi guys and gals,

Complete and utter noob when it comes to computers and gaming computers. I'm looking at buying one within the next month and just testing the waters to see what is out there and what can be built, as I have been looking around on the forums and it's like a different language haha,

I would be using the computer for day-to-day stuff watching Youtube Twitch etc, however, it would mainly be used for playing games. Garrys Mod, Arma 3, GTA 5 (Five M) possibly Call of Duty would be the three main games with the expectation of COD. Id love to have it tailored as much to these games as possible but open to playing others as well.

I'm looking at spending €1600-1700 (£1475)on the computer itself and €200 on a monitor €100 euro on keyboard mouse and headset ( these don't have to be fancy or next level, budget level stuff)

Hi there! We'd be happy to help. Just a forewarning- at the moment, with Covid, and Crypto currency mining, demand has skyrocketed so PC's are very expensive and wait times are long. If you're able to wait it out for a few months, I'd suggest doing so. Hopefully supply will improve and demand will reduce as the lockdowns are lifted. Over this time you could also save some more money and increase your budget a little for a better PC. As you're using Euro's I've made the assumption you're from Ireland (as most of the people that purchase in Euros are), if this is wrong, let me know and we can adjust the spec with the right shipping option. With that out the way, on to the suggestions

For the case, the Corsair 4000D is a great pick, it's got lots of gaps for airflow and will keep the parts inside cool. For the Processor (or the brain of the computer), I've gone for an AMD 5600X, it's a great choice for a gaming PC right now and will do you well. For the motherboard (the bit that you attach all the parts to) I've gone for the ASUS TUF B550 as it's a good pairing for your CPU. For RAM, 16GB will see you able to comfortably play the vast majority of titles, I believe Microsoft Flight Sim is one of the only exceptions. For the graphics card (the thing that puts the image on the screen) the newest generation of NVIDIA GPU's are very popular so wait times are long and the prices are high. Because of this I've gone with a previous generation 2060, it'll be a great card for the monitor I'll suggest. For storage. There's an M.2 SSD, this is effectively super fast storage that is installed straight onto the motherboard. This will have Windows, apps and your most played games. Then I've also added a conventional HDD which can be used for general file storage (word docs, videos, photos and the like) and the games you play less but still want to have downloaded. For the Power Supply (the bit that gives all the PC parts power) I've gone for an RMx 850W unit, it's a top of the line PSU and will run your system very comofortably, plus if you were to decide to upgrade your graphics card in a few years, it'd support it without it needing to be changed too. If you need WiFi, the AX200 card is a must. I've removed the anti-virus as it's known to cause issues and the standard anti-virus that comes with windows will do a perfectly fine job. The Silver warranty is also well worth the money.

For simplicity, I've also added an ASUS bundle that comes with a keyboard, mouse and headset. These are fairly budget options but will get you going and can be upgraded as you please.

For monitors, you need to get one that will work well with you graphics card, there'd be no point having a top of the line graphics card if you have a basic office monitor from 5 years ago. So, for the 2060, you'd be looking at a 1080p 144hz (hz is the same measurement as fps meaning this monitor will show up to 144 fps). 2 popular recommendations we make for these requirements are the AOC 24G2U and the MSI Optix G241. Both should be about 230 euros.

This build and that monitor should take you to your total top budget of about 2,000 euros!

Sorry about the extremely long wait to get back to you. Been extremely busy.
Thank you very very much for the in depth detail @JUNI0R

in regards your comment about waiting and saving up more money for a better PC, what would you consider price wise for this ?

A few hundred extra, perhaps. A few hundred above 2k Euro can give you a strong 1080p build.

Can we call this a €2400 budget for the whole thing? Because a little off the PC budget and put on the monitor budget will get you a better build.

Now, I'm not sure about the peripherals, so I've suggested buying all of them from PCS. I'd imagine it's possible to find a better solution for monitor, keyboard, mouse and headset, but I don't know where that would be, presuming this is a build to go to Ireland.

Your budget means you can aim at 1440p 144Hz, which is a great option for gaming, probably the sweet spot in terms of value for money right now. I'm going to suggest the combination of the Ryzen 5600X and the Radeon 6700XT (if you can go €140 over budget, the Nvidia RTX 3070 is an option for you, which gives you excellent ray-tracing capability).

The monitor I've suggested is the Ilyama GB2760QSU-B1, because PCS sells it. There are better options (the Samsung G5 and the AOC Q27G2U), but I don't know where you would buy them. Similarly, I've suggested the Corsair bundle for the other peripherals; there may be better options you can find, though I'd imagine the Corsair stuff is pretty solid.

Yes €2400 for everything would be the overall budget, however, I can stretch it to max €2600 if there was a particular part etc which would greatly change the PC.

I'll take into note buying all from PCS, as with Brexit and all that might make it the cheapest option (unless someone else has a better solution or ideas.

I would very strongly stay away from this particular monitor IIYAMA G-MASTER GB2760QSU-B1 27" as it has a TN panel! I would only look to IPS or VA.

Better look for a monitor somewhere else. Eg., Amazon.de, Amazon.es or even co.uk or any other places in the UK, ROI or EU.
My above recommended G5 is one of the best 1440p monitors and the price currently is very good on Amazon.de

I don't disagree, but I don't know where to buy monitors in Ireland! I don't believe PCS sells any WQHD 144Hz VA monitors, let alone IPS ones.

@ThomasW If you can stretch the budget by €200, I'd definitely want to spend it on one of the other monitors I mentioned.

Monitors here a bit outdated, but it's not an obligation to buy it from here. Best to get a PC from PCS and a monitor from somewhere else.

If you read what I'm writing, you will be aware that this is precisely what I would recommend except that I don't know where to buy monitors in Ireland.

Sorry now for the spam,

If i was to push the PC budget to €2350 what would you change/add
If taking my build as an example as @sck451 is very similar, I'd probably change a few things making a mix of both.
But firstly a question: do you like, don't like RGB lights or it doesn't matter? That would dictate a PC case, fans a CPU cooler.

Making the overall budget €2750? If we go for the Samsung from that site @Citrus_9 recommends (presuming it's reliable: I've never heard of it for obvious reasons) for €300, we can go up to €2450 if we include the Corsair bundle.

That can get you quite a bit more, probably upgrading at least some of case, CPU, motherboard and graphics card. I'd probably leave the graphics card as it is, as there will be insignificant returns from any upgrade, and do the other three.

(The advantage of having RGB lighting is that if you have it you can turn it off, whereas if you don't have it you can't turn it on!)
