Nova Advice

Hello,

Looking for a bit of advice. I've ordered the Nova (3700x, RTX 2070, 32gb ram) but have a few queries for some of the owners, if that's okay. Basically;

1) Is the RTX 2070 the refreshed mobile version or the original mobile version?
2) Is re-pasting recommended, or essential? (looking for peoples opinions)
3) People have mentioned doing a fresh install of windows. I've ordered the Windows 10 Pro. Do I need to re-install it on receiving the laptop?
4) Any other suggestions/tips would be welcome :)

Im not sure if you would have to check with PCS regarding which version of the GPU it is, not sure the Mods would know which is currently stocked as they dont work for PCS, can try live chat or email/phone for custoemr services.
Shouldnt need to repaste on a new machine, unless you are upgrading teh paste so depends what you want to use.
If youve ordered windows you should only have to activate it, it should ocme preinstalled. Worth checking version number and upgrading/fresh install of latest from microsoft if a new one is available.

What were you going to use it for? And have you bought a cooler stand?

Thanks for the information, I've taken your advice and will speak to PCS directly. It'll be 95% gaming, basically any upgrade on an older laptop. I already have a decent cooling pad that my older laptop was never able to take advantage of, do to poor vent. Excited for it to arrive :)

If gaming, why 32Gb RAM?
You may have been able to tweek the spec a little too, it will allow you to do amendments so might be worth posting the full spec and configurator link to see if anyone can tweek it to get the best out of it for you for same cost.

Thank you, I suppose I thought if I'm to spend £1600+, I figured may as well max some things out. I have a compatible m.2 SSD that I'd be adding in also to take me to 3tb. PCS confirmed it's the refreshed 2070 also.

@leebee2110 can you please post the full spec from the configurator please? There's a 'post to forums' link at the bottom of the page once you click Proceed.

It's difficult for people to make meaningful suggestions without seeing the whole spe

Edit: as I was (slowly) typing that you posted it! Many thanks. :)

I think your build puts you at £1650 roughly on price?
Do you know the specs on the M.2 you are putting in, or its full name?

I would of stuck to 16Gb which saves about £60, and then maybe looked at using that £60 elsewhere.
If the M.2 you have is 1Tb and similar spec to the samsung evo them I would use that for the operating system and drop the one from the spec (PCS one). Also, I have killer networking...to be honest...I dont think theres a difference. The AX200 is a very highly rated adaptor, even with desktops where there are more options.
Do you have a Win 10 that you will no longer be using as well? You can transfer the licence rather than buy another copy, which is another saving.
Increase the size on the SSD as a main storage drive.

From their site:
The Sabrent 1TB ROCKET NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 Internal SSD High Performance Solid State Drive (SB-ROCKET-1TB) delivers all the advantages of flash disk technology with PCIe Gen3 x4 interface and it is fully compliant with the standard Next Generation Form Factor (NGFF), commonly known as M.2.
Based on 3D TLC NAND Flash memory, its performance speeds can reach up to 3400 MB/s (read) and 3000 MB/s (write).

I’d use your M.2 and the spec ive put, fresh install win 10 on it and switch the license across

Assuming you meant repasting as soon as you get the laptop, no, it isn't necessary...unless you want to add your own high-grade thermal paste. Re-applying thermal paste should only be necessary, I think, once a year (maybe twice a year...can't remember which is recommended) along with giving the inside a good clean (beyond the usual fan and vent clearing) to keep it in optimal condition
