Obcure problem

I have a PC running Windows 10 bought from PCSpecialist in October 2016. It has been behaving oddly for some time and today I found that Windows Device Manager was reporting a problem with the coprocessor (on the PCI bus) which was not functioning because it had no driver.

I did not know that I had a coprocessor and it seems unlikely to me that such a device would need a driver. Also I could not find any reference to a coprocessor in the motherboard manual (Asus M4N78-AM).

Can anyone explain what is going on and what I can do about it?

A coprocessor is any processor that assists the CPU. Your GPU is a coprocessor for example and there may be other minor coprocessors on the motherboard.

This will be a driver problem, either with the motherboard chipset drivers (check the board vendor's website) or with the graphics card (check the card vendor's website).

Right-click on the entry for the coprocessor in Device Manager and select Properties. In the window that opens click the Details tab. Open the Property pull-down menu and select Hardware IDs. Post a screenshot of what that display looks like please. :)

I am sorry to say that I have sent you the invoice for a different computer which I returned unused.
I have now found a paper invoice for the real one, bought before PCSpecialist introduced their current online order record system.

You will see that the PC is nearly 12 years old, so there is little hope of finding new drivers.

Yes it is Geforce 8200; the last update was issued in 2015 and I cannot find another . Windows says the driver is up-to-date.

Get it from the Nvidia website.

If there really is no new driver then I'd suspect a card problem.

The nVidia website lists about 20 different series of Geforce products including 6 and 600 but there is no mention of 6200. I also joined their forum and searched, but no result.

Thank you Spydertracks - sorry to be so confused.

I have now downloaded the latest driver (dated Dec 2016) and installed it. The error icon on the coprocessor is still there but I will try restarting the PC to see if that helps.

I don't think there is a card - the graphics are integrated on the motherboard.
The vendor device identifier in the Hardware IDs screenshot you provided (the VEN_10DE bit) is assigned to Nvidia. The device identifier in the Hardware IDs screenshot you provided (the DEV_0753) is the GeForce 8200 - that's definitely what this 'unknown device' coprocessor is.

Please post the full specs from your order so that we can be clear on what build you actually have. :)
