Taken delivery of my Octane Series: 17.3" Matte Full HD 144Hz 72% NTSC LED Widescreen (1920x1080) + G-Sync with Intel® Core™ i9 Eight Core Processor i9-9900K (3.6GHz) 16MB Cache, 64GB Corsair 2400MHz SODIMM DDR4 (4 x 16GB), NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 2080, 4TB Samsung 860 QVO 2.5" SSD and 2TB SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2, PCIe NVMe

Absolutely awesome for gaming (as you might expect) but also amazing for my work setup which requires 5 Server 2012 Virtual Machines with AD domain controller, SQL server and SharePoint .

In the main, surprisingly quiet too - even while running games like Assassin's Creed at ultra.

Bought this to replace an Asus ROG 750JH with 32gb RAM and 980M Graphics - the Octane blows it out of the water :)

Hi, looking at getting one of these to replace my fairly new Asus rog g703gx as it's very disappointing!

What sort of temps are you running? Also how loud does the fan get while stress testing it or playing new call of duty/farcry?

The Asus rog fan gets so loud I can hear it through my headset, which I absolutely hate I can hear it through headset

Hi,

Not sure if this answer will disappoint but yes, the fans can get very noisy at full blast. Given that this is an i9-9900K with a GeForce® RTX 2080 squeezed into a laptop case, I guess it's to be expected when you're pushing the CPU and GPU during gaming.

At first I suspected that my laptop was running too hot and was tempted to phone PC specialist to check the build, but after a bit of research and perseverance I got everything to acceptable temperatures while keeping the fans within an acceptable noise range.

I do wish there was more info regarding the setup options for Control Centre with clear examples of the best under-volting setups for gaming :(

I played with the graphics options on Assassin's Creed Origins and was able to achieve a balance of a really playable game on Ultra with the fans running at 40% which in no way would intrude on your headset.

Noisy - Graphics set to Ultra with frame limit off
Average FPS 90, Max 142 FPS
With fan set to auto in Control Centre
GPU Temp: 77 - Fan speed 80% (4647 RPM)
CPU Temp: 70 - Fan speed 70% (4365 RPM)

Acceptably Quiet :)

Frame limit 90 FPS
With fan set to custom curve in Control Centre
GPU Temp: 76 - Fan speed 49% (3359 RPM)
CPU Temp: 77 - Fan speed 40% (2747 RPM)

Not very scientific, but I hope it helps :)
