Oculus Link capable VR PC

Hey, I'm looking for a low budget pc that I mainly intend on using with an Oculus Quest via Oculus Link. I don't need a monitor as I'll just be attaching it to a tv for now, but I may be interested in playing a few non VR games too.

I literally have no idea where to even begin so any help would be really gratefully received. Looking to spend around £800 or less if possible!

I don't mind upgrading over time so just something to get started would be amazing.

Thanks for your time!

VR takes some power, you're really looking at a minimum of a 2070 Super which would put the minimum budget at around £1500, there's no real way of doing a "budget" VR pc.

Can only agree. You want the 2060 as an absolute minimum, the 2070 Super would lead to a very good experience in almost every VR scenario.

Unfortunately you're looking at a £450 GPU for this. That bumps the base price of a decent PC to around £1200. The last thing you want to do is get a PC that just does what you want it with no avenue to expand or grow. You could do it on the cheap around £1k, or maybe a little less, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Just to add, the reason it's so specific for VR is that using the Oculus Quest as an example which is pretty much a baseline for today's VR, you need to push 2 x 1440p screens at 90fps (considered the minimum refresh rate in VR to avoid motion sickness).

That's essentially running two high refresh high pixel screens. Normal gaming would only be on one 1440p 144hz screen and even then we'd recommend a 2070 super.

Where you could provide a lower powered GPU, it would impact the performance to such an extent that motion sickness would make the experience pretty horrible. Believe me, I've had the effects on a lower spec headset and it's not pleasant to the point you just don't want to put yourself through the experience.

Thanks so much for the info. Could I ask what sort of build would you recommend? I do have access to a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6GB GDDR6. Would that be useless? Does this site offer an ability to share recommended builds like pcpartpicker?

So PCS build the PCs and ship them fully configured. We can only advise on a PCSPECIALIST system.

Oh I know, I just didn't know if it were possible for someone to create a build on pcspecialist and then share it with me. Sorry for any confusion!

Access to a 2070 would have you cruising. The 2060 is decent though, comparable to a 1080 which I have in my laptop and does OK with games. You might need to turn down the settings a little in the AAA games (Project Cars 2 is a GPU killer in VR) but it'll definitely wet your appetite :D

Something like this would normally be the recommended base with no GPU....

Hey Scott, sorry to bother you again. If I were to add the 2070 instead of the 2060 would I need to change anything on the build you suggested for me?

No, it will fit fine. I'd recommend a 2070 Super which has replaced the 2070, it's not much more expensive but quite significantly more powerful.

I always recommend base builds that will happily take anything up to a 2080 Super.

You could maybe squeeze a 2080Ti in there but you would be asking a lot of the PSU.
