Old IBM ThinkCentre Pentium 4 with XP model No. 81487BG

I have just been given an old IBM ThinkCentre Pentium 4 with XP on it. I have tried for several hours to get it to accept windows 7 32bit but to no avail. I want it to run a CNC machine.

It will accept a windows xp cd but not anything else, even though it has a usb boot option in the bios.

My question is, does this machine only work with XP?
