Old PC upgrade advice

Hi,

I don’t have enough money to buy a new pc at the moment so I want to upgrade my graphics card so till will last a little longer. I have about £200 to spend, can you recommend what second hand card I buy?

Current specs:
Intel i7 930 @ 2.80GHz
24GB Ram
Asus gtx 680 directcu ii

I have seen Nvidia 980ti going for under £200 but I am not sure if that is a good buy for what I currently have. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Is this for gaming?

What monitor are you gaming on, exactly?

If not for gaming, what is the new GPU for?

Is this a PC Specialist system?

I use the PC for work and gaming. For work the current setup is fine but games like doom and GTA 5 do not run great.

I have two screens a 1080p and a 1440p. I would prefer to use the 1440p screen but some times when things get really slow I use the 1080p

Apparently your i7 930 would manage okay, though you are going to get drops below 60fps most likely at higher settings, even with a powerful GPU.

So there could be merit in upgrading the GPU, even on such an old CPU. Though you may well be bottlenecked by it from time to time.

Instead of going for the 980 ti second hand, possinly on the assumption that second hand is always better value, consider the 1660 / ti which can be better performing at least in some titles. And being new, come with warranties, better driver support, and won't have been abused for mining or whatever else.

We can only advise in detail on PC Specialist systems - is this a PC Specialist system?
