Onboard sound problems

sine by sound card started causing problems, I have had to switch to using the onboard output.

this works better than the sound card, but it's by no means perfect. when playing games, some of the sound is missing.

it's hard to explain the problem, but is seems to be sound that is coming off from the side of the screen. if I am viewing directly ahead, there is no issue, but if I rotate the camera to view to the side, sound is not being outputted to what seems to be the lateral sounds being made in game.

any ideas why this is?

Is this happening in all games? Just one game? There's very little information here for us to help you much.

I would have guessed this is a problem with the game itself imo rather than your onboard sound. But thats just from reading your issue outwith and further information on your original soundcard issue.

Do you have separate speakers or is the sound coming through your monitor from your GPU via HDMI? Do similar problems occur if playing music/watching films etc?

Might also be worth changing your sound profiles in the games to 'stereo' as opposed to '5.1' or similar if you're only using stereo speakers.

I've noticed it on minecraft, F1 2011 and neverwinter

Are you using an HDMI cable from your GPU to your monitor?

no

separate speakers. I have had a look in the relevant menus but can't see any options to set things like that.

I actually meant in game options too, sometimes there are options to change from surround to stereo :) If the game doesn't have the option then a menu like boozad's would be the one to look for :)
