Onkyo Style Note Splash Screen Problem

Hi,

My Onkyo Style Note laptop is not starting up correctly. The splash screen keeps flashing up, with no sign of further progress. I've tried removing the battery and holding the power button but to no avail. Can anyone suggest any other possible solutions?

If it's a hardware fault, which hardware component is likely to have caused the problem?

I'd have thought it was a software fault at first guess. But I've never used one before so don't have any experience really unfortunately.
