Optimus series 17.3" - Keyboard keys peeling off after 2 months.

Hello there!
I got a Optimus series 17.3" laptop this September, however, after only 2 months of daily usage, some of the keys are starting to peel off...
You can take a look at what I mean below. (See the difference between the A and Q keys?)

Here is a close-up view of the worst looking key, the A key.

If this is happening only after 2 months, I wonder how the entire keyboard will look after a year or two...

How could I address this issue? I suppose I can get a replacement keyboard as it's under a 2 year guarantee. But I'm really worried this would happen again (it's unacceptable to just be asking for a new keyboard every two months... -_-' ).

Well, what I can tell you is that I got my laptop at around the same time as you and my keys have not started to show anything like that. But I agree that they feel like being painted over and not very smooth, so hopefully that won't happen with mine as well.

So you could try to get a replacement, hoping that this is only a defective batch

i have the same problems on my vyper (it start from 2 month and now on 4 month are bad some keys)... i think that they will ask me to send laptop on rma to change keyboard but for such problem i cannot send my work laptop. That's a shame on a 2000 euro's machine. Pc is really well built but is so mean that peeling off keys...

Whether you RMA it or not, you really should complain to PCS. They buy the chassis in and if there are failings with those then PCS need to know so that they can take the matter up with their suppliers.

So I had the same problem with keys peeling off on my VYPER III. Started peeling off after 6 weeks of buying.
After sending it in and waiting 4 weeks for return it finally came with a new keyboard.

Now after 8 weeks it again started to peel off. I can't believe this low quality for such an expensive product.
I want to return it for a repair but I just don't want to wait again such a long time, especially over holidays.

I would call PCS and talk this over with them. I agree that it's not acceptable.

I have ordered an optimus 17" laptop and now concerned about this. I'll keep a close eye on the keyboard when it arrives.

Two weeks have passed since I made the thread, keys are getting worse. Just take a look at the Shift key.

I'll try to contact PCS, but like @GiuFam, this is my work PC so I cannot send it during the holidays.

Hello @ all. I just wanted to let you know, after some weeks i got the same problems with my keyboard from the VYPER III 17. The keys are getting worse and PCZ is telling me since 11 weeks, i need to wait for a new keyboard. They cant send one, they cant replace one, no spare parts are available and they don' know when this will change. I think the same like u guys, maybe getting a new one but then having the same issues again after some weeks. What will happen after 2 years and there will be no more spare parts?

Anybody get any results from pcspecialist?

i worte to the pcspecialist service and will give the laptop back if they cant fix it in the coming 2 weeks. lets see what they ask.
This is very sad, esspecially because the VYPER III 17 is a very good and strong machine at all.

I called pcspecialist today. The contact said he would have to ask his supervisor if they can send the keyboard to me.
A few hours later I got an email: They can't send me a keyboard, I would need to send it in via RMA.

I don't care how annoyed you are, don't swear on these fora. Post edited.

Sorry for the language.
That's definitely a quality issue and not solved by shifting the problem to the customer.

Its how i said, actually if you send it in with RMA you could have to wait weeks or months... Wondering, if this issue happens only to some keyboards..

I rather wonder whether PCS want it back to confirm that it's a fault with the keyboard and it's not been damaged somehow by the owner? I'm not suggesting that @Vince92 has done anything wrong, I'm just guessing that's likely why they'll want it RMA'd

My guess is it is a fault as my Shift key (as highlighted in my review) has deteriorated more and one or two others are starting to have the LED light seep through so possibly fading the key details.

I’m waiting to the new year to see how bad this gets before RMAing it as really need the laptop at the moment. And the fact that nothing else is wrong with the laptop means I have a decision to make. Send it back in the new year and wait ages (especially if no stock of keyboards) or get some key stickers to put over them.

There are e.g. several factors. On the one hand, of course, the worn-out key lettering, which is now really terrible. The A can no longer be read at all.

However, I got my RMA through another fact first. My led lighting on the keyboard was so imprecise, purple and blue, red and orange etc. It was never just one color but there were strong deviations from one color everywhere.

Overall, I like the notebook and it really has killer potential, but then I installed this low budget keyboard :(.

Same issue happening on Valeon 17", it's only been 3 weeks since i got it and W, A, D keys are peeling off, the paint that was used on them is washing off, just wanted some advice from any of you guys who had the same issue, did you get it resolved or you sent it for a RMA, did the keyboard get fixed after a RMA ?
As everyone above mentioned, it's really such a pity that a 2000£ + laptop has this kind of issues

The only solution PCZ (german equivalent of PCSpecialist) offered me was another RMA. Since I use my laptop 50 hours a week as a working station I cannot wait 4-5 weeks until I get back my laptop.
Right now I am living with it. Of course it got worse with more keys (W, A, S, D, C, Shift, Q, E...). There seems to be no possibility to get only few keys. The quality for these keys is just bad.

Would be great if anyone found a solution without losing my laptop for several weeks.

It is just poor quality. My old Asus ROG G752VS never had these issues over the almost 4 years I had it . Keyboard looks the same as when I got it . Maybe PCS need to up the quality check on their laptops ?

PCS are just a system integrator, they just sell the chassis that are netted into the market, the quality is down to the manufacturer, TongFang in this case.

You will find several threads highlighting the poor build quality of the TongFangs, they’re high end components paired with very cost cutting chassis and the two just don’t pair well.
