Over Heating

Hi all, so i purchased my laptop around a year ago and yesterday i was playing a game and it overheated and turned off. I'm fairly sure why it overheated: i have a hard drive, speakers and a microphone plugged in and it is constantly charged. It is kept in a reasonably cool place and it constantly on a table with some air coming from the sides because of the stands on the back of the laptop.
I would like to know how to stop it from overheating again. Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks

You could use a cooling stand of some kind? Other forum members have had some success using those.

You say you're sure why it overheated, why do you think it overheated?

Does it need a dust?
