Nah, I tend to stay well clear of it. Gorman would know though so either wait for him to make his way to this humble thread, or post him a pm :)

If you're doing it with software you need to opt to have the program start on windows startup and apply the settings when launched. ;) Though to be honest you shouldn't risk voiding the warranty on such a part that's prone to failure more than most.

cheer up, killing hardware is an overclocking rite of passage, its an expensive hobby.

hmn.....................yes expensive,is suppose it would not be so bad if it wasn't for tha fact that i am literally ,absolutely skint,.....i think i might take up escorting.

hmm, escorting is a bit too similar to overclocking, one foot wrong and you end up taking a hit in the .................

wallet.

what is it with you man[kalisnoir] you really got it in for me.....you quite clearly are loving saying 'we told you so',if this was not the case you would not say it and instead possibly say something constructive rather than gloating over the apearance of correctness

Lol sorry bud, I haven't got it in for you, I was just stating that in fairness, we did recommend you NOT to overclock the GFX card until you have gained some more experience in overclocking. As long as a lesson has been learned though, then I guess it's still a partial success.

i am a little defensive,sorry....the lesson i have learned is despite knowing the correct way to overclock i still ignored my knowledge and did not initially take baby steps[small incremental increases in cores] so to speak.....so to sum i have learned that i can be stupid.....though i have still not touched the votage, not that dumb yet...but there's time............and as einstein said ,'man has an infinite capacity for stupidity'

Too progress in life, you are expected to make mistakes, and you know where you went wrong, which means you wont make the same mistake again.
That's somewhat of a success in my books, bit of a costly lesson, but hell, you only live once ey :p

To be honest bricking a cpu, memory or gpu is so rare nowadays. So many chips have built in fail safes that works at immense speeds to reduce the risk of physical hardware damage when certain tolerance levels are reached. Normally it's those ppl that forget to attach coolers correctly or introduce foreign objects that end up with bricked hardware.

I have been overlocking properly for some time ranging from Athlon K7 where I took this from 700 to 1Ghz to my QX9650 which I took to 4.8 on air and a 5.4 on liquid though stability was only about 20 mins and I couldnt be bothered I wanted to game :D. I even came 3rd in Intel Overlocking compo took at E6850 to 4.2Ghz with a crappy gigabit cooler :D

Anyways through all this time with some very extreme overclocks and insane voltage rises I have never bricked a componant.

it would seem that the prognosis of a fault due to overclocking was a little premature as my system has been working perfectly for some weeks now, touch wood it stays that way [he says whilst touching his head]
