Partitioning - Data files and My Docs - Where do they go?

Hello folks. Ex-MESH customer and potential new owner of PC Specialist kit here who is just about to hit the ORDER button before the VAT change this evening if possible. Would welcome any guidance on partitioning before I do so. My quote contains a 1TB HDD. A colleague of mine has recommended that I put the OS (Windows 7 Home Premium in this case) in a C: partition of about 100-120GB and have all the data files for all users (i.e. My Documents and all that) in the remaining D: partition of 880-900GB so that any recovery of the OS partition is kept simple. Is his advice correct and, if so, how can I get that included in the order? I think the partition split option page assumes everything including data files goes in the first partition by default. All guidance, comments welcome. Thx.

Thanks, PCS, for the welcome and the prompt reply. I've digested the stuff on the link you suggested and I guess the bottom line is there is no right and wrong way - there are pros and risks either way. I'm going for neither RAID nor dual discs in the spec as I don't need that level of redundancy but I will follow my colleague's recommendation to go for a partitioned HDD at the outset. Can always readjust later if need be. I'll go and press that ORDER button now. You've just gained a new customer. Thx.

Mmmmmmmmmm......sorry. Well, it was a close run thing. I bought my first Mbox back in 1999 and it served me faithfully for 7 years without so much as a fart of a problem. So, I went for another one which also got delivered without a fault. However, that only lasted 2 years before something had a mother wobbly and refused to start Windows. Took for ever to get through to M who suggested everything else (including me) rather than the possibility of a fault. To cut a long story ... I now need to get another desktop. I thought I'd give M another go and looked on their site again which, in all honesty, is not that bad and provides considerable spec flexibility. However, before coming very close to pressing ORDER, instinct kicked in and I read the torrent of abuse about them on forum after forum. I'd seen PC Specialist advertised so decided to explore this website. Pretty favourable so far, I have to say.

Sounds like me except i went one step further and ordered a pc from them - i'd also read the abuse they were getting but as an existing mesh owner i thought it would be fine.
Anyway they kept mucking me about with delivery dates and on the monday before christmas told me the motherboard was out of stock!
So i've cancelled and now have to wait 14-29 working days for my refund which has p##### me off no end.

At least it's given me time to suss out my spec before i buy from here.

Mesh should have a look at this forum, they might learn something about customer service.....
